saden1 09-28-2010, 04:38 PM This defense isn't confusing anyone except itself, couple that with an inept defensive coordinator and you got a recipe for horrible team that finishes last place finish.
There's no hiding it, Jim is a f'ing moron.
GTripp0012 09-28-2010, 04:41 PM I don't like Kyle Shanahan's feel for calling a game.
He's almost the reverse of Zorn, who had a great feel for how defenses would react to him, but was ultimately choosing from an entire playbook of overly simplistic plays and concepts.
Kyle does so many different things in the passing out of basic pro sets, but appears to have a horrendous feel for how defenses are going to play him. McNabb bails us out of a really poorly designed play about once or twice a drive.
Chico23231 09-28-2010, 04:43 PM More reality: Rams on drives 2-5 in this game: 19 yards of total offense. Longest play went for seven yards, with perfect offensive execution.
Yeah, but I painfully remember them scoring 30 points. Thats also probably double their average over the last year. Gtripp its the Rams, not Houston. Another painful obvious observation is they had more success in the second half, which means a) the Rams offense wore our defense down (now thats embarressing to type) b) Haslett made no significant adjustments to stop what the Rams were doing.
I think its not too late to get this thing going in the right direction. I our problem lies more with the line/linebacker play.
Anybody notice how obselete the Rams made London Fletcher? When he struggles, our entire unit struggles

GTripp0012 09-28-2010, 04:46 PM Anybody notice how obselete the Rams made London Fletcher? When he struggles, our entire unit strugglesKeep in mind that Fletcher isn't protected by a scheme that foolishly tried to funnel all action to him. Fletcher was great, and has been a great player for a long time, but his tackle numbers were always inflated by the fact that the Redskins would never allow you to get a body on him (by ensuring you got a body on everyone else).
In this defense, he takes on blocks and his tackle numbers are down. He also doesn't get a lot of help directly in front of him. It's tough being London Fletcher these days but he's made it up in coverage and is doing any and everything we ask of him and he's having a great start to the season, IMO.
Fletcher is struggling with minutae, but he's good enough to overcome it.

That in bold is bothersome. Yeah coverage he been there. Hopefully he can overcome it, we need him making plays. I was just shocked not seeing it compared to the first couple games, I think overall the backer play has been...slow/average but obviously still getting the system straight. Play up front seems to be getting worse since the season has started which is scary.
GTripp0012 09-28-2010, 04:58 PM I've been impressed by Carriker these last two weeks. He might be our best defensive lineman (Haynesworth-neutral).
I think the linebacker play has been excellent in every phase but screens. We can nitpick the fact that Andre Carter is always going to play a little stiff in space and that he's a better 4-3 DE than an OLB, but Carter is 31 and not a significant part of the future of this team. Wouldn't have been much a part of the future if this was still a 4-3.
The defensive line hasn't been very good, but we still have an ace in the hole (Haynesworth), Carriker looks like a good pickup, and if all we need to do is ask Golston to rise to the occasion and be average, I think he'll eventually pick up the system. He's flashing playmaking ability already, which is good. He just has a ways to go.
Kemo is a big weakness. I mean, eh, I think he'll be more healthy and A LOT more explosive next year. Right now, we can play Anthony Bryant and Haynesworth equal time and get better performance. Kemo and Jarmon both had significant injuries next year and I'm not worried about the DL long term.

Houston was a coming out party for him. Big time active. This past week, yeah, probably our best linemen. Albert, if he wanted to, could be massive I think.

This is how I feel. This is what I feared when we hired this proven loser. Even worse is the realization that I came to after watching the Rams man-handle us:
The defense is clueless with little to no talent. Exceptions being Orackpo, Landry, Haynesworth, and an aged Fletcher that is out of position. The rest of the defense is average to below talent, and yes I do mean every corner.. Nobody knows what they're doing from play to play out there and it shows. Hence the inability to stop a drive and get off the field, or stop a team when they are going for 3rd and long!
The offense is aged and just about equally individually talented. We have no playmakers at skill positions except QB,TE. WR, RB are completely embarrasing. Portis should be released after the flop he took in the middle of the field with no contact and not punching in the TD from the 3. WR... What WR? We don't have any. F'ing embarrassing..
The Skins need to clean house of ALL these old losers ( Doughty, Carter, Portis, Rabach, EVERY WR, etc.) and let some new blood make these mistakes. These old bastards that have made a career of being on losing Redskins teams need not be here. Let the youth learn from their mistakes and growing pains of the transitions on O and D. I'm sick of the same assholes giving the same shitty performances and in turn the same excuses for failure to succeed.

Carriker, Goldston and Kemo would not start for any successful team running a 3-4. Carriker has been the better of the two but we're talking about a group that isn't going to dominate anyone.
