The defense is suppose to be the strength of the team though. We already know the offense is below average. This has been a top ten defense with many of the same guys. So how do we go from top ten to dead last?
Regardless that doesn't give the offense a pass. 16 points isn't exactly setting the world on fire.
We need to improve in every phase of the game right now. The D is the most obvious, but the offense and special teams need a lot of work too.
12thMan 09-27-2010, 12:17 PM So funny, this all sounds like the same old song we were singing late last year, the year before, so forth and so on. Disgruntled with the coaching staff, perplexed with the scheme. Not happy campers.
skinsfan69 09-27-2010, 12:19 PM But I thought he was the next Deion Neon? :food-smil
Hall was simply terrible yesterday. After all that talk he goes out against WR's that are worse than ours and plays like a girl. I just don't get the guy. He needs to keep his mouth shut cause he's not good enough to back it up on the field.
GTripp0012 09-27-2010, 12:19 PM Well people may not believe it but all I care about is what I see. And this defense was not nearly this bad last year or the year before. The last two weeks have been horrible.Granted, that the results have just not been there this year.
I don't know if we're any good as a defense this year. I do know we have the same strengths and weaknesses as we did last year, and that staying with what hadn't been working in the past would have been a poor way to try to avoid becoming a slightly weaker version of the same unit.
I'll listen to any argument that suggests we just don't have the talent around studs like Orakpo and Fletcher and Landry to be successful. We may or may not. That remains to be seen.
I do know that if we're going to have a "defense has major issues thread", we should at least be able to identify a couple of those issues. If the problem with the defense is a talent deficiency, that could be a major issue. If the problem is "we lost to the Rams and need to scapegoat something", well, now I'm the one who doesn't care.

We started two drives that deep in opponent territory all of last year (both in the Panthers game). We've already matched that this season. The offense, to date, has been worse than last year. I've been impressed with McNabb and Williams, and Portis' blocking. Disappointed with everyone else.
Can't see how Casey Rabach starts next week. Even cats only have 9 lives.
Mechanix544 09-27-2010, 12:28 PM I cant believe we lost to the RAMS.
OMG, that is pitiful. so much for the "playoff run" here in DC. that was downright ugly, and there are ABSOLUTELY no positives to come out of that game.
We stink.

I just expect less from the offense cause we've only got one legit NFL wr. These guys that they brought in were on the street for a reason. Galloway, Armstrong and Williams would not make 90% of the teams in the league. Thomas and Davis need to be on the field all the time. Not journeymen WR's.

Not journeymen WR's.We're clearly less talented on offense than on defense. Either the defense is underachieving, or it isn't as good as I thought it could be every year since 2007. It's never lived up to it's billing.
We might still improve on offense yet, but three games into Zorn 2.0 last season, we were ahead of where we were now. We know how that ended.
If we beat Philly and go 2-0 in the division to start, no one remembers this game. We'll be in first place in the NFC East no matter what Dallas and New York do.
Dread-Skin 09-27-2010, 12:34 PM Defense hasn't been playing well. We won a fluke in week one and the defense's issues caught up to us on week two. We just lost to a subpar team (apparently they are not) with a rookie QB that didn't play his senior year, basically no receivers, and their start RB (their main offensive weapon) out for half of the game.
That sums it up. I don't think Haslett had the personel to make the 3-4 adjustment, yet he did anyway. Why haven't we changed for a series and gone back to the 4-3? That would at least keep another team off guard b/c they obviously are quite cozy torching our team all day. It seems like a case of fixing what wasn't broke.
Haslett's zone coverages are so easy a rookie QB can pick it apart.
Only in Washington would we let Gwilliams leave, promote blache, hire zorn and get back on track only to hire Haslett who has a pitiful track record and accomplished squat.
IDK what the answer is, only know there are numerous problems and now we are losing games when the division is still up for grabs. Disgraced today.
Alvin Walton 09-27-2010, 12:43 PM Playoff run?
We were at 1-1 and you guys were thinking of playoffs?
Playoffs?
