skinsfan69 09-27-2010, 11:09 AM And don't get me started on D. Hall. KLHJ2 09-27-2010, 11:36 AM Still seems to me that the secondary is more the issue and not the front seven. We were way too soft in coverage especially on 3rd downs. I agree, especially when we are blitzing on 3rd down 90+% of the time. Coverage has to be tighter against the blitz especially on 3rd down. If you are giving up quick slants, bubble screens, and skinny posts for first downs on 3rd and 7+ ytg there is a problem with the coverage behind the blitz. GTripp0012 09-27-2010, 11:39 AM This was the worst game for our run defense this season, and our pass defense certainly wasn't good (enough) in this game. It was a below average performance from the defense overall. The offense was worse. Turnovers, three and outs, zero ability in the passing game. Just ugly. We ran the ball better than in the past, which is a lone positive. If you can't pass, you can't win, and we can't pass right now (last week's dominance of a poor Texans defense aside). Lost in all the bashing of the defense is the fact our offense didn't do squat either. Horrible on 3rd downs, turnovers, penalties, settling for FGs in the red zone, piss poor. SFREDSKIN 09-27-2010, 11:57 AM D Hall's position on the team comprises a combination of both supporters & detractors. Before his tenure is through, he will continue to gradually reveal himself for what he really is. An empty wagon!! But I thought he was the next Deion Neon? :food-smil skinsfan69 09-27-2010, 11:57 AM I agree. Lost in all the bashing of the defense is the fact our offense didn't do squat either. Horrible on 3rd downs, turnovers, penalties, settling for FGs in the red zone, piss poor. The defense is suppose to be the strength of the team though. We already know the offense is below average. This has been a top ten defense with many of the same guys. So how do we go from top ten to dead last? GhettoDogAllStars 09-27-2010, 11:58 AM First of all, most of you sound like a bunch of impulsive women. Man up and have some patience. Second of all, it's clear that some of you don't know jack about 3-4 defense, yet you're calling for Haslett to be fired. Lastly, people can learn new things, but you have to be willing to give them time and suffer through mistakes. Mistakes are a part of learning. This is how PROGRESS is made. I'm not saying we'll be better at the end, but we've got to find out. Progress isn't easy. Don't panic and start whining at the first sign of adversity. Be strong and weather the storm in hopes that we'll be better in the end. GTripp0012 09-27-2010, 12:03 PM I think the most frustrating thing right now is that the defense really did not need to be changed. Sure they could've tweaked it but over hauling to a 3-4 was stupid. You can cause turnovers and sacks from a 4-3. What seems to be most annoying is Haslett simply has no idea how to adjust. At least Blache knew how to do that. The 4-3 defense was to that side of the ball as Jason Campbell was to the offensive side of the ball last year. It wasn't the problem, however, if you have a way to improve it you need to be gutty enough to go for it. Our coverage units have been pretty soft all year, which isn't a positive, but it would have been a problem in a 4-3 zone-blitzing defense as well. Biggest difference in this game is that Kareem Moore can cover, but he can't tackle. Essentially, I don't think he's an improvement over Doughty, but we lose some run defense for some pass defense. So how do we go from top ten to dead last? It's silly to say "dead last" as if yardage totals after two games actually indicate anything. The results on defense have been sub par to this point. No one actually believes we have the worst defense in the NFL. The last time the defense was a team strength was 2007. That's an eternity ago. All the mistakes our defense is making this year we made last year in spades. skinsfan69 09-27-2010, 12:13 PM It's silly to say "dead last" as if yardage totals after two games actually indicate anything. And this defense was not nearly this bad last year or the year before. The last two weeks have been horrible. |
