Let's not forget what this team really is. Whatever shades of the Joe Gibbs 2007 playoff team faded away at the midway point of 2008 after a 6-2 start. Beginning at the 2-6 slide to finish that season, and counting last season plus this year's games, the Redskins have lost 20 of the last 27 games.

That puts us in the same class as the Browns, the Lions, the Chiefs, the Raiders and the Rams of the league. And it's going to take a while to get out.

It's going to take Shanahan & Co. at least 3 yrs. to construct a roster of players that could possibly win at least 10 games. First he needs to purge the roster of it's dead weight, stop trading away it's draft picks and reconcile to a new beginning of building a team that will be able to compete for an extended period of time. In order to accomplish that they've got to bury that win now philosophy. This team does not have the right players right now [on either side of the ball] and I think they'll figure it out sooner rather than later.

The only problem with my reasoning is that if the team dosen't begin to win quickly after all the happy talk leading into the season, Shanahan himself will start feeling the heat. He's going to find that the same rail out of town that all his predecessors have experienced will be just a heartbeat away.

Question? How patient are the fans going to be with this administration if the team dosen't begin to show some promise?

Patience!!.....Time!!...Oh Boy!!

Yea Irish let's be honest, how many teams in the NFL are we better than talent wise? Cleveland, STL, Detroit and Buffalo. That's probably it my man

You are correct. The Skins losing to StL isnt like if NE had lost to Buffalo yesterday. The Skins are a bottom of the league team like those you mentioned so yesterday's game was one weak team losing to another.

Definitely bottom of the league right now. There's no way in hell you go from a consistent top ten defense to number 32? The 3-4 isn't that bad. Haslett is horrible, no other way around it.

98 and 30 are the only 3-4 players. Maybe Moore.. Fletcher doesn't fit the scheme, he's out of place and his tackles are way down.

I agree, but what I'm saying is out of all he seems to not being doing as terrible you know?

I mean I'm jumping the gun, but I don't see this crap working out, we have a good 3 years till they get this whole team in check.

The defense has issues but firing Haslett 3 games in isn't going to solve anything.

The problem I have is, why bring him in when the 3-4 isn't fit here? I can understand getting rid of Blache, but bringing in Haslett only sets us back a good 2 years maybe more.

Just wasn't a smart move.

I've always heard it takes 7 years to field a team to the point where it is dynasty/repeatedly competitive, like New England, IND, etc...

By the time this team is ready to go, McNabb would be 39 turning 40, probably retired. Portis will be retired. Cooley will be 35, our young players will be nearing 30. The whole team should be ready to go but we would probably definitely need a new QB by that point.

And thats saying Dan sticks with Shanahan that long. Even if it takes 5 years to get competitive, most of our standout players will be nearing retirement if not retired.
