Yogi Berra on the Washington Redskins...

It's deja vu all over again...

For the last two years - - and particularly last year - - the Redskins defense found ways to lose games by giving up "the big play" or "the big drive" in the fourth quarter. But this year, it was Jim Haslett to the rescue... His new and aggressive defense wouold never allow that to happen - - even with much the same players on the defensive side of the ball.

Well, the defense did all it could to lose the Dallas game in Week 1 until Alex Barron saved them from themselves. Remember, the Cowboys had a receiver standing in the end zone with a completed pass that would have tied the game with less than 10 seconds to play. {Odds they would have missed the PAT is about 1 in 100.] That play with the defense came on the end of a drive down the field of something more than 10 yards with the defense doing nothing memorable to stop the drive.

This week the defense had a 17-point lead with 16 minutes to play. To give up 17 points in 16 minutes means you would be giving up 64 points per game. Do that math for yourself if you think that's wrong. But the Redskins' defense did just that.

So, is Haslett the dumbest doofus on the planet - - or are there significant holes on the defensive roster?

My vote is for holes on the defensive roster.

Oh, and by the way, one of the holes on the defensive roster this week was NOT "The 42-Million Dollar Man". He was inactive because of an ankle injury. Bet that increases his "trade value"...

first off i believe it was many things that caused the collapse:
1. key injuries on both sides of the ball late (williams, landry)
2. the d became way to comfortable.
3. 4 and 10....DIDNT DOUBLE ANDRE!

How about Larry Johnson being a total moron in thinking he's Reggie Bush vs. a bunch of college scrubs? Man, can we grab Ganther, Parker, or even Betts to replace him?

We have some holes in this D, no doubt. NT, FS, and LB, I'd say. But this transition is going to take some time, as we knew. The D can bring pressure, and we got another INT. And, without a doubt, the Texans have a great passing game, among the best in the league. The D is at least a year away, personnel-wise, but my guess is that they'll have some better days ahead.

This loss hurt. But at least we look like a pro team, albeit one short on talent at some key spots. I'll take that over the utterly inept play of recent years, where we looked like a half-assed high school team at times.

Your blaming the D for almost loosing the Dallas game when they held the 2nd rank O to 7 points and if they did score to 14 points? OK.

Don't just blame the D. The offense and special teams both layed eggs when they could've salted the game away. What about Jammal's false start on 3rd and 1 deep in the red zone? Fred Davis' failure to chip the edge guy led directly to the blocked FG that kept it a 1 possession game with 6 minutes left. And even D-Mac missing Galloway 5 yards in the clear with a long pass could have put the game on ice. This was a total team loss, with plenty of blame for all phases.

In my opinion after he lost 10 yards on that play, that's when things went south with the team for the rest of the game.

Agreed, we had plenty of things go wrong, and we had plenty of plays you look back on and wish they would have went differently. That's why I really hate singling out guys like Doughty. He was part of the loss of course but I'm just not a fan of the finger pointing and trying to find a scapegoat.

I think we are all going to look back at this game when the Texans are deep in the playoffs and said "we held our own against those guys". These Texans are going to beat a lot of teams this year. They have a very balanced high powered offensive, and the Skins can't run the ball well enough to control the clock and win games at the end of the game right now.

Hooray for that.

Seems like every week, win or lose, somebody's ass needs cutting.

Last week it was Rabach, this week it's Doughty.

I don't have a bad word to say about last night's game. It was great entertainment and although it was a heartbreaking loss it at least gave me reason to be optimistic about the rest of the season.
