Some positives from week 2

McNabb was absolutely on fire. Not sure how long it's been since we saw QB play like that in D.C., probably gotta go back to Brad Johnson in '99. 28/38 for 426 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, 0 fumbles. That's big time.

Santana Moss is warming up to this offense very nicely. 16 catches in 2 games so far. He had a lot of big catches that kept drives going today.

Holy shit a Joey Galloway sighting! 3 catches for 88 yards, and of course the one that was just off his finger tips would have been the nail in the coffin. Still, good to see the old man can still get deep.

Cooley, 3-64-1, just another day at the office.

Fred Davis had the big 62 yarder, but totally whiffed on the FG that got blocked. Giving him props for the big play, but c'mon Freddie you've got to make a better effort on that FG.

Carlos Rogers held on to an INT!! I thought for sure after that happened that we were destined to win.

Landry is officially in beast mode this season. We sure missed him when he went out of the game in OT. Schaub went right after Horton.

On the plus side, we'll never have to worry about Davis slacking on a Field Goal ever again.

We never throw the ball like that. People will be afraid of our passing game - when does that ever happen? The NFL is a coordinator's league and I am so happy that we have Kyle Shanahan. And #5.

Trent Williams is a definite beast. I hope that he gets well soon.

We had 5 sacks. 5! Although we had some defensive troubles, you have to like the pressure that we put on Schaub most of the time.

Last year we would have lost this game 31-10.

I think individually the defense is not that bad, not as bad as the stats suggest. True we gave up a lot of yards, but we gave them up to the number one passing offense a year ago too. I also get the sense that this team isn't down on itself like they would have been a year ago after a loss like this. So I'll chalk that up to leadership. But you just can't have no running game and expect your defense to slug it out with Houston all day long. No defense could have.

Adam Carriker looks like he's finding his sea legs out there. God, I was really down on the guy when we signed him, but if stays healthy he might be a keeper.

I'll ditto Matty on Laron Landry. He'll never make people forget about Sean Taylor 'round these parts, but he's starting to carve out his own little rep for being a fierce defender and is always around the ball. He's putting up Pro Bowl numbers.

Once again Williams looked good. Hopefully the knee is just a minor deal.

Sellers caught some balls. I suspect that opened up the offense a little when they had to start spreading out to cover for the fact that DM would basically throw the ball to anyone.

Armstrong flashed. Hell of a grab in traffic that was.

CP blew that guy up on the Davis long play. It made me holler big time.

Carricker impressed me a lot. I wish he could play safety. Haha.

Spreading the ball around on offense -- Armstrong, Williams, Davis, Galloway get some catches. Proving we may just have some weapons outside of Moss and Cooley after all.

I agree. Part of what I loved about Taylor was that he was that deep Center fielder, in a sense Ed Reed in a linebackers body and in a passing league thats a great thing to have. I've come to accept that Landry's 2007 FS run might have been nothing more then a flash in the pan so trying to plug Landry in the role is futile.

On the other hand, through these first two weeks Landry has clearly been the best player on defense. Orakpo is a relatively close second. Fletcher has obviously been playing well, but I feel like the same praise that was cast upon Fletcher last year is now being directed towards Landry. Hopefully he continues along this path.

Positives from Week 2:

Donovan McNabb was excellent!

Interior OL blocked well on passing plays. [Let's not talk about run blocking this week...]

Chris Cooley played like a Pro Bowl tight end.

Santana Moss played very well.

Anthony Armstrong played well.

London Fletcher filled holes on run plays AND got a sack.

Adam Carriker played better than I have ever seen him play.

LaRon Landry made a lot of big hits - - sadly too many of them were after a Texan had made signficant gain on the play.

Question:

If Mike Shanahan's offensive scheme can take any "dork off the street" and turn him into a 1000 yard rusher in the NFL, where was that "dork off the street" this week?
