Week 2 matchup: Houston Texans at Washington Redskins - NFL - Sporting News (http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/2010-09-14/week-2-matchup-houston-texans-at-washington-redskins)
I think both teams could be in for letdowns coming off huge division wins. The Kyle Shanahan connection could play in our favor, but we need to get the offense cranking to keep up with Houston's high powered attack. Unlike Dallas who was all hype, Houston actually delivered week 1.
BleedBurgundy 09-15-2010, 10:11 AM Yeah, we could be in trouble. If our run d against dallas was any indication, Foster could be in for a huge game. Unlike Dallas, Kubiak doesn't seem to need to force the pass, he'll happily run it all day if it's working.
aceinthehouse 09-15-2010, 10:12 AM Well,we were able to shut down and take Witten out of the game against Dallas...
I'm thinking they will target a key player and do the same...Andre Johnson will probably get his catches regardless, much like Austin. But if we can keep him from hurting us deep,I think we can manage that...
Owen Daniels is a darn good TE and we will need to keep him in check like we did Witten.
But to win,I think we need to keep their Running game in check and put lots of pressure on Schaub and try to force turnovers with our aggressive Defense.
If we can cause fumbles and get a pick or 2,we can win the game.
I think Schaub can be rattled...and we need to find a way to do it!
Chico23231 09-15-2010, 10:22 AM Its funny cause I fear Houston's running game more than its passing game right now. We must be more physical up front and push there line into the back field on runs. In the pass game, we are gonna have to sure up our zone coverage. Too many holes, but Homo couldnt find'm.
On Offense we MUST be better on 3rd downs. I think we were 3-13 last week. That sh*t is not getting it done. I think the redzone play calling needed to be better too. I hate it when we called back-to-back corner fades. Change it up and use our talented TEs. I believe our offense will be better.
I also think if we are physical right off the bat with Texas on both sides of the ball, we could create some intimidation. Let them know its gonna be a long day on the road playin an NFC East team
rbanerjee23 09-15-2010, 10:22 AM We will give up yards to the Houston offense - that's a given. It's whether we will give up points that is the better question. Dallas gashed our defense with 380 yards of offense but the defense stepped up when it mattered so I think they will do the same.
I think Arian Foster will do pretty well against us b/c we could not stop Dallas' run game to save our life and Andre Johnson will have a good game as well b/c Doughty is too slow and neither Hall, nor Rogers is good enough to cover him.
That being said, the Dallas defense is way, way better than Houston's defense so I am looking for the offense to show up a little more this week. I think we may actually have a relatively high scoring game with each team breaking 25 points each.
Lotus 09-15-2010, 10:30 AM I watched the Texans-Colts game and the Texans ran the ball at will. It wasn't just Arian Foster - anyone could have run through those holes. If we don't fix our run D this week, we could be in trouble.
Conversely, the Texans pass D is less than scary as long as you can keep Mario Williams in a bottle. We need a plan to keep him out of the backfield, and we need to stop dropping passes, but if we do those things then McNabb could have a nice day.
The Texans targeted the Colts and now they're on the road. Let's hope that they suffer an emotional hangover.
freddyg12 09-15-2010, 10:30 AM I wonder if Garrett kept passing simply because haslett kept blitzing? They ran on the 3rd & short plays & caught us w/1 d linemen. If Houston is dead set on running the ball, I'm sure we'll see Haslett put in some bigger fronts.
The run d is a concern though, I thought dallas could've pounded it on us a lot more.

Probably just their week one gameplan more than anything, play smashmouth and keep the ball out of Manning's hands. No doubt they want to run, but I doubt they keep up that run to pass ratio all season.
mredskins 09-15-2010, 10:40 AM I got to think having Kyle on our side is a huge plus. We need this win because it is a home game.
Plus Indy vs. Hos; those two teams know each other really well it is a toss up when you play out of your division; you never know we may match up well against them.
Longtimefan 09-15-2010, 11:00 AM ^^ I was glad Dallas didn't continue to run the ball, the outcome may have been different had they done so. The one play that was surely going for a touch when they called time out sticks in my mind.
The Texans are going to have to take their show on the road, it remains to be seen if they can be as effective at FedEx as they were at home Sunday against the Colts. If they insist on running the ball in hopes of duplicating their previous effort, we'll adjust accordingly.
While I do have some concerns about our run defense, it's not to the extent I fear the Texans beating us with their running game. We need to show improvement on both sides of the ball, both our passing and running games need to gear up and be consistent. Our offense must lead us to more than a couple field goals.
