So tired of people bitching about Rabach. If you know anything about football then you'd know that blocking Ratliff one on one is going to be difficult for anyone. Rabach just isn't strong or quick enough to handle Ratliff one on one..he needs help.
Is he worth the extension? Make him play out his final year and earn it.

That's interesting man, that's f*cking interesting :)
I think Shanny has all the expertise/qualifications in the world to do whatever he damn well pleases with the offensive line. Oh ya he has history on his side too. My intuition is our line is tops as the season continues AND the offense just opens up more and more.
Should be very fun to watch all this play out. Sure I wish we had more talent at WR, but the brains on the sideline need to find a way to use the talent we have. Davis is too talented/skilled to spend more than a few plays each game on the bench. Find a way to use him!!! Cooley, Davis and Moss, and then let's see Thomas start to find his groove. These are the downfield threats...

So his years of TD-killing penalties and inability to snap in the shotgun are excusable as long as he doesn't break a hip bone when blocking Fatliff?
Center should have been upgraded this offseason. Hopefully next year...

In our trade for Jammal Brown, part of the conditions was if Brown played 90% of the offensive snaps the Saints would get a 2012 6th round draft pick. I didn't put that together with the rotations till I read a different article on VJ, but if they can sub in enough to keep Brown fresher later in the year, AND keep that draft pick because he didn't play enough snaps, then +1 to Shanahan again.

Nice, that is a really clever idea. But honestly, is sacrificing O-line consistency worth a 6th rounder? Our late draft picks this year didn't even make the team...
Here's a good article about offensive line consistency - and how it doesn't happen anymore in the NFL..
Offensive lines no longer built to last - ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=pasquarelli_len&id=5207239)
Either way, I'd much prefer just having the same guys in there for 30 games in a row. This rotation idea is probably simply he's not satisfied with the current line, and is still looking for the best fit. Basically Dock, Rabach and Hicks haven't earned their spots yet.
Hope we get it together soon. Consistency can't happen until we draft good young kids in there, but when we do -- THAT'S a winning formula.

If we can make it garbage time for an opponent by blowing them out, I wouldn't mind Heyer taking the garbage reps if that means holding onto a pick. Clever indeed.

I think if they end up going to an 18 game season you may see even more rotating lines. Its kind of like hockey's line changes, if you develop a consistent line rotation then u may be seeing the next evolution in offensive schemes (not that I am drinking the kool-aid or anything)

Since the O-line is one of the most oft injured positions I like having early season confidence in the back-ups by seeing if they have the ability to come in on a key drive in an away game and not make mistakes.
