Slingin Sammy 33 09-07-2010, 04:27 PM So based on what you've seen, you're not at all worried about rushing defense without AH in the lineup?
..... But with AH, I'd feel safe in saying our prospects are much better.I'm concerned about our run D with AH. He can only play one position on the DL, either NT or DE. Kemo hasn't looked particularly good at NT and our DEs are average at best (Carriker, Daniels, Holliday). Golston is a high motor guy, but an overachiever and not an NFL starter IMO. We also have major issues in the run game at OLB. Anyone who thinks we're making a deep playoff run this year is sadly mistaken. If we get in as a wild card the season will be a huge success.
Does AH make this year's D better? If he's on the field, doesn't have a phantom injury, and isn't half-assing it every other play, he makes this year's D better. But, does anyone actually expect him to be here long-term....I certainly hope not. We have to face facts, we've got a bad apple and we're not getting any more than a 2nd for him, if we can get that. But a 2nd is better than nothing and we should be able to pick up a quality DL in next year's draft with that pick.
Rome wasn't built in one off-season.

There are some things, like our running game for instance, that I'm comfortable with, even though it hasn't looked stellar so far. I can't say the same for rushing defense. With Barber, Choice, and Jones coming into town Sunday night, I'm afraid they might churn out 200 yards on the ground against us. But with AH, I'd feel safe in saying our prospects are much better.
Honestly he kinda scares me in the 3-4 with how undisciplined he plays. And there have been whispers from some players that they're concerned about him too.
Which DL on our current roster is better than HAynesworth? Who on our D-line can we offer as trade bait like we did Haynesworth and actually get a draft pick in return? GolsteN. LOL!
Say what you want about an out of shape loafer that was Haynesworth last season. He deserved it last year.
He is back in playing shape.
It matters not who he is or is not....better than. If the guy is unworkable in his current "work" situation, then it is a mute point.
As to conditioning, he became the league laughing stock for failure to pass the conditioning test that most of the ESPN clerical staff passed on their lunch hour. TRULY an awesome speciman......

I was concerned about this during the Jets game, and even AH himself talked about needing to be more disciplined in his game. I thought I saw some improvement against in the game against the Cards. Honestly, I think this is an issue with the whole line in general.
skinsfaninok 09-07-2010, 04:39 PM I'm sticking with Adam Schefter and say AH wont be traded
over the mountain 09-07-2010, 04:41 PM Tony Kornheiser? Like he ever talks sports.
yeah i wish they would put another show on. he hates talkin sports anymore.
the day after the skins jets game, his show came on, he said he didnt watch one snap of the game. he then went on to talk about some political social issue with a guest call in.
just a horrible show and completely wrong format for a sports radio station.

Rome wasn't built in one off-season.We also have to rectify this knowing that given the current roster (read: age + salary structure), the 2011 team almost certainly won't be as good as the 2010 team.
There are plenty of things a team can do in the offseason to better its long term and short term fortunes. But the only thing a team can do to completely change the outlook of it's organization in a year is have an other worldly (better than 98% of all other) draft class. And we're already down two picks and retained only 2 players (plus 3 UDFAs) from this class.
So while it's about 11 months too early to have an accurate prediction for next year's Redskins (or even if there will be a next year's Redskins), it's worth pointing out that any move we make that hurts our chances to win this year is doing so at the expense of next year's team as well.
To be clear, I'm not saying that the 2011 team can't win. They can: but only if we ALREADY have the right balance of players to be successful now and in the future. If we cut Albert Haynesworth and have a poor rushing defense with limited pass rush, there's no silver lining. There's just decreased quality of defense going forward.
Mechanix544 09-07-2010, 05:03 PM unless we get a second and a 5th, or something around a 3rd and a 4th, or a 3rd and an average receiver (which would become our #2 WR), then I say this deal doesn't get done.
I am actually a little frustrated with how the Chargers won't even field teams inquiring about VJ for less than a second and a third. Its ridiculous.

Shanahan spoke to that particular issue on his show on NBC with Larry Michael and Lindsay Czarnaik. He's afraid his undisciplined play will create holes in the defense that will allow runners to rip-off long gains by being out of position.

That doesn't necessarily mean it won't be as good.

There doesn't appear to be much in the 2011 draft at NT, but a few good 3-4 DEs should be available when we pick in the 1st.

If we can pick up a 2nd for the guy I don't see how that hurts us. Did you see AH staying with us and being productive in 2011? I sure don't.

There's just decreased quality of defense going forward. No way do I advocate cutting AH, only a trade for something in the area of a 2nd rounder. The 2011 team should be positioned to win, even while getting rid of AH. Our secondary is young and should improve over the course of the year. Fletch shoud still be productive in 2011, the rest of the LBs appear solid, providing Orakpo matures at the 3-4 OLB spot (if not, he's got trade value to a team playing a 4-3 and needing an RDE). The place we need to shore up is the front three and there are some good 3-4 DL coming up as FAs in 2011 also.
