Jerry Jones is the new Al Davis, not the other way around.
Nice Article on Snydertryfuhl 09-06-2010, 12:48 AM Jerry Jones is the new Al Davis, not the other way around. chrishanburgerHOF 09-06-2010, 01:13 AM He's a horrible owner. Our team is a punchline thanks to him. RedskinsfaninBaltimore 09-06-2010, 01:32 AM Not flawed at all. If you can't build a winner or your plans fail, you just keep bringing in new faces to keep folks excited. Think Al Davis, the Jerry Jones of late. Also look at politics, we just get the same shit every 2,4, or 6 years, but different faces with different marketing packaging. Just because Snyder got Gibbs back eventuall doesn't prove anything. Gibbs coming back got the fans all excited, etc. I think Dan tries to win, but when he doesn't his fail safe plan is the chaos of just bringing in stud FAs or new HCs. It works in politics and business like gangbusters. I was talking about after the 2007 season where Snyder was on the phone with Gibbs until 4 am trying to convince him not to retire. And he wasn't doing that for marketing packages or whatever conspiracy theories you have. He was doing it because they went to the playoffs. Now stop watching Fox News :silly: tryfuhl 09-06-2010, 01:42 AM He's a horrible owner. Our team is a punchline thanks to him. we weren't so hot for the 7 or so years before he came either welcome to the board though man! Mechanix544 09-06-2010, 12:19 PM ehhhh, bad decisions and mistakes does not a horrible owner make. Every owner makes bad decisions. But Daniels bad decisions are fueled by people that he WANTS to trust, ie Vinny Cerrato, ....etc And I do believe that he has the best of intentions when it coomes to building a great team and carrying the Skins banner into the next generation. (At least he changed our cheerleaders to the hottest semi strippers in the league!!!!!! That good decision counts for alot in my Book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) MTK 09-06-2010, 12:25 PM Winning is still the best way of maximizing revenue. I have no doubt Snyder wants to win. His methods of getting there are definitely in question, but now with Allen and Shanahan in place he seems to (at least for now) have conceded this his way wasn't working. chrishanburgerHOF 09-06-2010, 12:59 PM we weren't so hot for the 7 or so years before he came either welcome to the board though man! I agree. Norv, Danny, and Vinny are my personal Axis of Evil. Skins are like my brother, I can bag on them, but outsiders beware. Thanks for the welcome. Giantone 09-06-2010, 07:56 PM My criticism of Dan Snyder has always been football related I have never said one single word about his heart or how he handles his family.I know of one story to be 100% true and that was what turned me against him(as an owner). tryfuhl 09-06-2010, 08:35 PM Is it the one about him firing the guy who asked for the day off for his son's birthday or something? I think you're the one that keeps rehashing that one. sportscurmudgeon 09-06-2010, 10:55 PM Come on now, do you believe everything you read? Practically every article written on him in recent times has tried to say the same thing. Can you say hype and propaganda? He wants to win, well that is what he is supposed to do, but to me he is way more businessman than fan. From what I have observed there are two ways to generate tons of revenue in the NFL, the first is to actually invest in your team in a rather intelligent way and build a team over a few years, and continually build on that even once you have a winner, or you can try the "chaos" model where you just keep everything in total chaos with the signing of high priced free agents, always changing coaches, etc with the win now attitude, keeping the fans hooked that the next regime will bring home the Lombardi. Snyder, Jones, and Al Davis have chosen the latter and have yet to produce a consistent winner. We will see if Shanny and Allen can do the job, but thus far they are fitting into the win now "Chaos" model perfectly. I bet in reality Snyder isn't all that concerned about getting a Lombardi as he is of raising the revenue stream and he can do that easier with the "Chaos" model. Folks here seem to believe everything they read - - when the article says something they prefer to believe. However, when an article says something that they prefer not to be correct - - say like Albert Haynesworth being a lazy slug who might not play all that much in Week 1 - - then the author is a douchbag and doesn't know his ass from second base. The events of the last decade would indcate that Danny Boy Snyder is more passionate about increasing revenues and net positive cash flow from the team than about winning. Part of the evidence for that would be that positive cash flow from the Redskins is estimated to be up by more than 80% in the last decade while the team has been a loser over the last decade. And now that Jerry Jones has his new stadium that can command much higher prices than FedEx can because FedEx is pretty much a dump, Danny Boy is going to have to focus even more of his attention on the revenue streams so that JJ doesn't beat him out as the highest grossing team/stadium in the league. Actually that is good. He focuses on the $$$ so much that he loses focus on the team. He knows how to make money; he has no idea at all how to run a football operation. |
