Look, one problem we've had around here that's contributed to our long period of suckiness is that players get to do what they want. AH is a well-known jerk. Shanny is making the point that he's not having it, full stop. AH clearly felt he was being treated like a punk by sending him out on 49 plays in game 4. So he half-steps it. Shanny sees this and refuses to back down: he tells the media about it. Now let's see how AH practices this week. If he plays hard, that's that. If not, the saga continues. He doesn't start and gets limited playing time. If he still half-steps it, he's benched.

My prediction is he plays hard for Haslett (the "good cop") and works hard in the game. Shanny can declare victory at that point and off we go. But a key element is, as ace said, winning. Notice how AH seemed to snap in line when we won. Losing allows the guy to pout and bitch. And that's trouble.

As for "just releasing him," I don't think this is such a distraction for the players. Rather, it's a media thing. So long as the team is with Shanny, no big deal. Let AH simmer and let the media spin. Who cares? Now, if there's evidence that it's distracting the team, ok, maybe. But a trade is obviously much more desirable. And, of course, AH playing ball for us is the most desirable. Hopefully, we'll win some games, AH will back off, and Shanny can move on to other things.

FRPLG...Permalink #426 - #431 & #435 of the Skins vs Cards, Preseason week 4 Gameday Thread is proof positive of just how much I'm in agreement with your latest assessment.

When a journalists lists an unnamed source, I do not think you can assume it was Shanahan especially after his Coaches Show that aired last night. I which he stated that the story was out of control and he did not want it in the media anymore. I would take this as him not wanting these types of stories in the media anymore and to be kept in house.

Another POV instead of looking at this story for face value, would be a type of misinformation he wants out there so the Cowboys are not focusing on AH as a force they need to deal with. (This would be dumb on the Boys part) They should not overlook this guy and I have stated this before.

Jason Ried will print anything he can get out of anyone in the organization to keep this story going as it gives him national recognition. The link to this story is now on ESPN and I am sure a 100 other internet sites.

Let's try and not fuel the fire on this story and wait and see what September 12th holds for AH and the defense.

I agree.....and have never trusted media reports that cites un-named sources.

I don't think it's fair for the coaches and team to expect the players to discuss it with the coach if he has a problem, and "keep it within the team"... And then have the coaching staff have J.Reid on speed dial. Shanny's got to assume some responsibility for "leaks" within his staff, if they are credible.

Again, clean this mess up. Let's play football. Hope big Al's out there.

I agree if MS is in full control of this team, these leaks do come back to him even it is not under his direction to put the information out to the public. He still has the responsibility to control the people in the organization, but how can he control what everyone saws or does not say to the media.

I can't imagine he won't play the majority of the game even if he doesn't start. On an unrelated note, its not entirely un common for teams to draw out an internal source by purposely feeding him fake information, and when it gets out that guy's busted...that's why you should always have more than one source

While I am fine with unnamed sources, I have issues when only one news outlet is reporting something and it's not corroborated by others within a reasonable amount of time. This story started with JLC, then bounced to J. Reid but I hadn't seen the other beat reporters piling on.
