Chico23231 09-01-2010, 03:15 PM I liked the fact that he mentioned mosques in his speech/sermon but then I thought to myself hasn't this guy been riling against the "ground zero" mosque and the imam behind it with nonsensical attacks? What part if his speech/sermon did you like and did any of it give you pause?
Beck lacks character IMO.
This is the part I most like aka found most humorous:
As for miracles, Beck cited only one. He described a V-shaped flyover by a flock of geese down the length of the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall that was caught on tape and applauded by the crowd.
"Coincidence? Maybe. I think it was God's flyover," Beck said
mlmpetert 09-01-2010, 03:39 PM Just an FYI there are many millions of people who believe in the "Mythological" being in this world. And many of the worlds best and brightest.
Obama included!

True, but there are millions more that believe in other mythological being(s). You've got numbers on your side right now (I'm assuming you're christian, apologies if i'm wrong), but were the ratios reversed and the vast majority of citizens hindu/buddhist/islamic/whatever, would you like your laws to reflect their beliefs?
Easiest, most rational solution is to disassociate government from all/any religion until such a time as one/all can be proven to in fact be based upon something real. That means empirical proof, not hallucinogenic interpretations of migrating fowl. Now if you see four horsemen, I reserve the right to change my stance.
And to prevent further uncomfortable bunching of female undergarments, please note that: The term "myth" is often used colloquially to refer to a false story, but academic use of the term generally does not pass judgment on truth or falsity. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mythology)

I don't necessarily disagree really. It just smacks me in the face how conservatives get so demonized for being noninclusive and unreasonable when there are just as many liberals with the same kind of mentality. Beck is a douche..but to dismiss every single thing the guy says, like some are want to do, adds so very little to the discourse. There are a lot of people who find common ground with some or all of what he says. They're not all stupid no matter what some believe.

I wouldn't say all of them are stupid. I would say that all of them want to force elements of their religious beliefs upon the rest of us in hopes of kick starting some magical time machine that brings back the 1950's (or whatever decade that holds nostalgic significance to them as the US's honor high-water mark). I don't dismiss, out of hand, ideas solely because of who is expressing them. I will dismiss ideas that are based on flawed logic, or in this case, the absolute lack of logic.

He had some Imam's on stage, and Rabbi's, Priest, Ministers and other members of the "Black Robed Army".
His beef with the "GZM" (i just made up that term) is that he thinks we should look into where the money that is funding it comes from, since many view the motives behind the imam wanting to build there as questionable. Also there was a Greek Orthodox Church destroyed when the twin towers fell, that has not been granted approval to rebuild. They submitted paperwork to rebuild their church pretty much immediately after their church was destroyed. I believe that the GZM only recently (last couple of years) made the request to build their mosque. The Greek church has been tired up by red tape, while the GZM was pushed to the front of the line for some reason, likely political (much like how the Skins, Lions and Vikes all cut Marko, political bs).
He says that they imam should be able to build the GZM if he provides proof of where the money being used to build the mosque comes from. I completely disagree with Beck on this. I say don’t make them jump through hoops to build their mosque, just let them build it just like you would any other group. If it turns out down the road that the money was tainted then take action then. But I don’t understand how you can hold the Greek church back and let this plan go through

So Beck had requested a fly by at the event when it was first being planned since this was largely a tribute to military service members. It was denied, because you cant do fly bys in DC anymore (RFK-2 potential issue?). He also requested from each branch of the military to have someone present the flag, like a ceremonial raising or something. Each branch denied to offer their support because of how the public largely views Beck (inaccurately imo).
This goose “flyby” happened at 9:59 right before the event kicked off at 10am. Im sure some may find meaning in it, while im sure some may have got shitted on. It comes down to your faith/luck or lack thereof i guess.
Chico23231 09-01-2010, 04:46 PM Its two blocks away from ground zero and cant be seen from the ground zero site. crazy this has become an issue

I 100% agree, let them build it. Its just people villainizing another group of people they don’t understand and don’t take the time to look into for themselves. Kind of like some do with Beck…..
