How can he make the team unless they put him on IR? I say ditch him as cold as that sounds. The guys we have now should do fine, plus we can always draft a guy next season or two.

Don't know his condition. As recently as this morning I was one of many "insiders" convinced he was a lock to make the team. Not as sure anymore

But you guys do realize this means we're getting DeSean Jackson in 5-10 years, right? Think about it, 1994 (or thereabouts), Casserly wants speedy, small Joey Galloway, Turner wants and gets big, tall Michael Westbrook. Now?Galloway a redskin, Westbrook out of the league. 2001 Snyder wants speedy, small Santana Moss, Marty wants and gets big, tall Rod Gardner. now? moss a redskin, gardner out of the league. 2008 Beemnseven wants small, speedy DeSean Jackson, Vinny wants and gets big, tall Malcolm Kelly. Now? Vinny out of the league...

So were going to get beemnseven?

Good call. We will just get by until then, and then.... Championship!

IMO this goes to show when drafting WR the priorities should always go hands, speed, route running, and last and least size.

Hands and speed are definitely tops.

aside from size isn't that about the order of Kelly's strengths?

I say it's route running, hands, agility, speed, then size. To me this is how Jerry Rice became the greatest receiver of all time. Route running is first because if you can't get open then it doesn't matter how great your hands are. It's also above speed because when you can't run routes you simply run into coverage faster, at least at the NFL level. Also agility is above speed in part because it goes hand in hand with route running. Being able to execute double moves and quick cuts is essential to being a top receiver.

You say that like Kelly is getting hurt in the games and from hits. Thats not the case.Gary Clark had CHRONIC hamstring issues, but he found a way to suck it up for his team on Sundays. I just don't see that kind of toughness in Malcolm Kelly's make-up.

For what it's worth though, Kelly was active for all 16 games last year

What's the impact of going on IR? I know he can't play all year, but what does the team owe him? base salary is about all he's got on his contract. He's not making a ton of $.

I think IR would be good for him. Give him a year to think about it, get himself healthy & develop a routine for stretching & workouts.

Anything I'm missing? I just don't see what the team stands to lose putting him on IR, assuming he meets the criteria by league rules.

If not IR, I say keep him before galloway.
