I really don't see why they're going to IR-ing Kelly. He played all last year and he really didn't do shit. He was hurt his first year and now he's hurt again. For a big guy he isn't a red zone threat and he can't seperate. He reminds me of a poor man's Roy Williams which isn't very good. Kelly is a good kid and may work hard but he's just got too many things going against him.

Apparently, his hammy strain was misdiagnosed as a Grade 1 strain when it was a grade 2 strain and I think they still want to keep him for evaluation next year.

Devin Thomas is terrible at returning kicks. Why do people think he is in line for that job?

I do think his blocking on the punt return team is what stands out most favorably.

I agree, he is below average at returning kicks.
He is big, but I would NOT call him physical by any stretch.
What I am noticing his main problem as WR running routes is he can not maintain a high speed when running square-in patterns. It might be his weak knees, but he is fine run a deep route or running in a straight line, but if he has to run a 90 degree corner in his route he has to slow down. Which might explain the whole not getting enough separation from DB issue.

DT averaged about what Rock did in his last year.. 2 yards less than Rock in some of his other years.. and people were upset about getting rid of him

Bottom line if Kelly and Thomas were not 2nd round picks they would have been gone by now. They are still on the team because of the investment of using high picks, not because of their stellar play or lack of it..

I don't think that Shanahan cares when they were drafted honestly. Thomas may not have shown greatness yet, but he's top 5 or 6 on the team.

I agree 100% Tryful. He is top 5 as far as our current WRs go and he is useful in special teams as far as coverage and returning.

As far as Kelly goes there must be something that the team either likes about him or feels obligated to IR him. By doing this they are saying we still feel that in the future you may be an assest to this team.

It clears up the question as to what we are going to do with him that is for sure, and has the WRs in camp breathing a little easier.

Shanahan is the same guy who said “The worst thing people do is keep a draft pick just to keep a draft pick”.

I doubt Shanahan could really care less about when these guys were drafted. Especially considering they weren't drafted on his watch. It's about talent, or our glaring lack thereof at the WR spot that keeps these guys around. If there was someone better waiting in the wings they would undoubtedly be gone.

Stupid. So they misdiagnosed the severity of the pull, big deal, the guy is an injury waiting to happen. There is a lot of WR talent coming out next year and in 2012 I believe. Just draft another guy. Why keep beating a dead horse.
