"One thing for sure that is clear to me is that Albert has gotten away in the past with playing without practicing,'' Shanahan said. "That will not happen under this regime. If he's going to play, he's going to practice, and that is the same with every player here. The days of him playing without practicing are over. And that, to me, says it all.''

Someone should paste this on AH's locker.

That would be classic. I mean for God's sake all they're asking is that he participates in practice. Is that really so much to ask. You don't want to go to the offseason conditioning program, fine, pass this simple conditioning test and you can practice. You want to play in the game when the lights are on, and everyones all dressed up, great, go to practice.

He has not been asked to do anything extreme. I can even understand him wanting to stay out of practice after being sick. However don't complain when they tell you that they're going to either sit you out or work with the second team.

I just wish he'd shut the hell up. I mean when has going to the media ever solved any problems? It just creates more. If he's got issues air them out in locker room, or with the coaches. He's a talented player but the argument seems to be is he worth it? That's not for me to determine because I'm not an NFL coach, but either way, he just needs to stay the f away from the media.

I might also add it may be wrong but I hope some team ends up with a glaring hole at 4-3 DT or 3-4 end and decides to trade for him so we can have a peaceful locker room. We may lose his talent but I doubt he was leaving it all on the table anyways.

I have a question. What would have happened if the Redskins stayed playing the 4-3 defense? Would AH have been an issue? Shanahan would still have come down on AH for his lack of conditioning whether he played on a 3-4 or 4-3 Defense. The issue here is lack of practice time and conditioning.

Yeah probably. Sounds like Albert doesn't like the change in authority. He liked the relaxed atmosphere Zorn had and he is probably upset that we changed coaches without consulting how the players (aka him) felt about it.

Rhabdomyolysis occurs when you work out in extreme heat without being in shape. Notice: without being in shape.

So AH's remarks, recontextualized, were: "Why did Shanny call it a headache when I have rhabdomyolysis, which you get from not being in shape. Why didn't he tell everyone that I'm out-of-shape? But I didn't have it so bad that I missed the game. So what I'll do is miss OTA's again next year and show up out-of-shape again - that will solve the problem."

Once again we see that arrogance is as stupid does.

Exactly. I'm a doctor, so I love clearing up this medical stuff for you guys.

1) Rhabdo is the same thing as saying "muscle breakdown". It happens when you exert yourself to the extreme, and worse when you're dehydrated. Happens to marathon runners all the time. Here's the thing, I bet if you tested all those football players after a long day of practice, a bunch would have some minor muscle enzyme leakage in the blood. And you could say that they had some "muscle breakdown" or rhabdo. But I bet his amount of leakage was fairly small, and I'd bet his muscle enzyme levels are comparable to other players (who aren't complaining). But that's just a guess.

2) In the extreme, yes, it can affect the kidney. I'm certain Haynesworth was NOWHERE CLOSE to affecting his kidneys. His kidneys are completely normal and fine, trust me.

In the end, Haynesworth probably did have rhabdo (muscle breakdown). He muscles did probably hurt all over. But if he was in better shape (and well hydrated), this probably would not have happened. And he's trying to use this to blame his problems on someone else.

To the point, it may be time to start thinking about cutting him before he starts eating away at this team.

I remember Baugh or someone saying Redskin Park turned into Club Med under Norv, but it seemed to have stayed that way til Shanny came, with maybe the exception of 2001 under Schotty. My beef with AH is he made a media spectacle over this. He needed to talk to the coaches with his concern over the 3-4 scheme change and understand he was in their plans, instead he balked about it publicly and for a prolonged period of time. This headache stuff might be legit, but damn, he blows up publicly about it. It is just a cover for his laziness anymore.

Shanny's camp to me feels like a mix of Club Med and Med school. Like they're easy enough to help prevent any unnecessary wear and tear but at the same time they require a lot of discipline, focus, and execution. Schottenheimer and Gibbs easily ran the toughest camps.

Nice. Good post. Thanks for the info Doc. Good to have a resident physician around. I had never heard of rhabdo before today, but after reading into it, you pretty much confirm what I found. It's a fancy way of saying muscle breakdown, and can be avoided if you drink plenty of fluids and are in shape for the task at hand.

The release of this whole rhabdo thing only makes him look worse, not better. He was so poorly hydrated and so unprepared for practice that he developed this issue after 10 minutes on the field earlier in the week? LOL.

What's funny is the team/Shanny said they had no idea about this rhabdo, which tells me that maybe someone in Al's camp floated this to make him maybe look better... ooops.

Just go away Albert. You're not gonna win this war. Your wallet may look fatter than your belly, but unless you toe Shanahan's line, you're gonna part ways with this organization looking every bit like the uber-douche you are.

I've had rhabdo before due to overtraining in the gym. Shit totally sucked. Something tells me that his wasn't caused by the same thing.
