Exactly Smoot, USC is a big program in a top conference. Their stadiums is always packed even when they were only winning 2 games. Besides, there are lots of golf courses in SC for OBC to enjoy. This is a good move for OBC.

Ok, here's one thing I'm a bit confused about. Spurrier takes over if Holtz steps down. But what if he doesn't? Does Spurrier wait until 2006 then?

It appears pretty solid that Holtz is retiring.
I wonder if somewhere Spurrier is smiling knowing that his Redskin offense last year was better than this one under Gibbs -- without Clinton Portis?

It might ease the agony a bit, but I think even he knows that Gibbs and co sticking with this team for the long haul will pay off big.

spurrier told florida fans that he's doing them a favor by not returning to UF. don't know much about the gator faithful, but their reputation is one of overbearing scrutiny and impatience. and his legacy didn't do zook any favors- their fan base crucified him, and it didn't help that zook happened to be SS' successor.
spurrier knows that he probably would lead UF back to prominince quickly if he went back, but for only a few years- and then the next head coach would have an unfair standard from which to work. UF fans should remember that SS brought legitimacy to a program that only had a few good seasons before his arrival.
