Patrick Ramsey had a QB rating of about 74, threw for 3,703 yards, completed about 52% of his passes, averaged 6.55 yards per attempt, threw 52 passes of 20+ yards, and threw 23 TDs and 17 INTs (2 of which were hail mary passes that Ramsey threw in relief for the starting QB).

David Carr had a QB rating of 62.8, threw for 2,592 yards, completed 52% of his passes, averaged 5.84 yards per attempt, threw 31 passes of 20+ yards, and threw 9 TDs and 15 INTs.

Brett Favre had a QB rating of 72.2, threw for 3,303 yards, completed 60% of his passes, averaged 6.33 yards per attempt, threw 37 passes of 20+ yards, and threw 19 TDs and 24 INTs.

Joey Harrington had a QB rating of 59.9, threw for 2,294 yards, completed 50% of his passes, averaged 5.35 yards per attempt, threw 28 passes of 20+ yards, and threw 12 TDs and 16 INTs.

Byron Leftwich had a QB rating of 73, threw for 2,819 yards, completed 57% of his passes, averaged 6.74 yards per attempt, threw 33 passes of 20+ yards, and threw 14 TDs and 16 INTs.

Peyton Manning had a QB rating of 71.2, threw for 3,739 yards, completed 57% of his passes, averaged 6.5 yards per attempt, and threw 42 passes of 20+ yards, and threw 26 TDs and 28 INTs.

Steve McNair had a QB rating of 70, threw for 2,665 yars, completed 52% of his passes, averaged 6.42 yards per attempt, threw 36 passes of 20+ yards, and threw 14 TDs and 13 INTs.

Ramsey's stats look pretty good to me, especially when you consider who I've stacked him up against. Just thought this might interest some of you who wanted to evaluate Ramsey's first 16 starts compared to other QB's first 16 starts.

I have a question about your data.

You say that you are comparing Ramsey's first 16 starts to the first 16 starts for other QBs. However, you say that two of his INTs were Hail Mary's for someone else who started. So why are they counted in the first place?

Interestingly, your stats for Ramsey's 16 starts are almost identical with his stats for his total career spanning 22 games. Same 6.55 yards per attempt; slightly lower QB rating for all the games (71.5 versus "about 74").

In 2002 plus 2003, Ramsey's total passing yardage was 1539 + 2166 = 3705 yards. That accounts for all 16 of his starts plus 4 relief appearances. Since you gave him 3703 for the starts, does that mean he only gained 2 yards passing in those 4 relief appearances?

The reason that is important is you said he had 52 passes of 20+ yards in his first 16 starts. Well in 2002 + 2003, he had a total of 53 passes of 20+ yards and so I would guess that he gained more than 2 yards passing in those relief appearances since at least one pass was more than 20 yards in length and I have to believe that was not the only pass he completed in four relief appearances.

Here's where I got his career stats:

Don't forget Ramsey also had better weapons than David Carr and Joey Harrington combined

SC,

He only played in a full 15 games. Two of those 22 games were games in which he threw just one hail mary and in several games he was pulled out due to injury or becase Spurrier game him a short leash.

Stat's or no stat's Im not even worried about Ramsey, I know talent and I know he will be a big time starter for us once he get's comfortable in Gibb's system, to knock Ramsey after what he went through under SS basically being blugeoned everytime he went back to pass is ridiculous, he showed as much under that kind of pressure as any QB in the league, I said before we traded for Brunell not only that it was a bad trade as far as giving anything up for basically a free agent, but I also said at the time I didn't believe he was a good QB, he was more of a playmaker with his leg's, Coughlin wanted to trade him 4 year's ago, why? Because he came to the conclusion he couldn't win with him, so I suggest that the Brunell bandwagon stay on board so we know who you are when the Ramsey race car comes flying by!

Did you hear Gibb's talked about him on the news. He sounded excited. I never heard him talk about Brunnel like that after practice.

If we commit the time and effort we may have a Gem at qb right under our noses.
