Doesn't have an NFL arm? Just to clarify a bit.
Go to Youtube and search John Beck 70 Yards.
This is a common misconception that Beck has lived with since ending his career with BYU. The guy has a rocket arm. In fact, in the Combine in 2007 he had the 2nd strongest arm in throwing. How that is not NFL-ready has always been beyond me.

This one? The ball only traveled 64 yards in the air though.

just watched a few spots on Beck.. I think from being in such a slinging atmosphere he never really learned how to make proper reads/look defenders off

Most BYU QBs are not sucessful in the NFL. Steve Young was the big exception.
McMahon was, but he wasn't really that great of a QB, just on great teams.
Ty Detmer, Steve Sarkisian, Robbie Bosco...all flops after BYU. They just run a system that works incredibly against college defenses, but it doesn't transition well to the NFL.
They're a lot like Florida Gator QBs and their transition to the NFL.
Just odd that coming out of college one of the knocks on him was his arm strength. Could have been overblown, but saying he's got a rocket arm might be overstating things as well. I'm just going off of what my buddy said who's a Dolphins fan. He said his arm strength was adequate but nothing special.

Shanahan: Baltimore's interest in CB Doug Dutch after Domonique Foxworth's injury sparked yesterday's trade.

^^^ it just seems like this was a simple move, no harm done, and builds a relationship.

So the 26 year old could light up the gun at the combine, but at this point, might have the 8th or 9th best arm in the class.
