Ramsey is Going to Stink Up the Joint the Next Two Weeks

Ramsey is going to be god awful the next two weeks. That said, he's the best QB we've got.

Philly is going to blitz Ramsey into oblivion and negate Portis by hitting Owens deep in the first quarter. The Steelers, who now have the #1 defense in the league and love the blitz, should also tear Ramsey apart. Given that the pass protection has been poor (which made Brunell look worse than he is) and Ramsey is as mobile as a statue, I expect Ramsey to be sacked about 12 times and intercepted 4 times over the next two weeks. That he hasn't been practicing with the first team, like Brunell is still learning a new offense, and hasn't started a game yet this season, he's going to look awful. Jim Johnson and Dick LeBeau (not to mention Kearse and comoany) are licking their chops right now.

That said, Ramsey is going to show us something we haven't seen since last season - an offense that can move the ball downfield. I fully expect us to break the 18 point barrier Brunell set for our offense and our passing game to surpass the 100 yard mark (something Brunell hasn't done in 3 of the last 6 games he played in). Moreover, I do expect to see Portis get bigger running lanes as the defenses will blitz hard.

He's the man we need to give our offense a spark (along with a few turnovers) and he's the man we need to evaluate going into the offseason. It would have been much nicer for Ramsey to have had the schedule Brunell had through the first 9 games of the season. But, shoulda, coulda, woulda. He's got the schedule we've got and there's no doubt in my (admittedly biased mind) that he's the guy who needs to be under center.

Damn, Ramseyfan you sound like me. I hope your're prepared for the crusade that you have instigated because these guys are going to take your view of Ramsey out of context and try to tell you who have confidence in him that you are putting him down and not giving him a chance. Just wait.

How about the entire team could stink up the joint the next 2 weeks against superior teams? That would be more accurate in my opinion.

The QB position isn't our only problem spot.

Yah I am fearful we will be anihilated the next few weeks. Of course if ramsey steps up and learns how to beat the blitz we win both games plain and simple. I think talent wise we can defeat both teams with solid QB play.

Pat has thrown for 484 yards, 4 touchdowns and 2 Int's against Filthadelpia in two career starts, not bad huh?

I wouldn't be surprised if he got the snot knocked out him, but I also wouldn't be suprised if he kept us in the game long enough to have a chance to win it.

I think our big concern is Mc5 and T.O....not Patrick Ramsey.

I totally agree with you, Ramseyfan, though I think Matty's right, and the whole team will struggle the next 2 weeks, as well.

I'm a devoted Ramsey fan, but I know what his limitations are, and I know the circumstances for him right now are about as bad as they could be. That keeps my expectations for him pretty low over the next 4 games. All I'm hoping for is that he is able to show enough progression over the remaining schedule to maintain Gibbs's faith in him going into the offseason. I think the worst thing that could happen to this team is that Ramsey completely flops a la Brunell, and Gibbs feels no choice but to scrap the current quarterbacks and spend more money on another quarterback in the offseason.

I think it's highly unlikely that Ramsey will blossom as a quarterback this season-- there's just too many factors working against him at this point. But if he can show some signs that he's ready to take his game to the next level going into the offseason-- which is very possible given the matchups against weak defenses that close out the last three games of the schedule-- then I think Gibbs will stick to the Ramsey Plan, and work really hard this offseason on polishing him up for next season.

I agree also. I think putting him now was wrong. I don't think that putting him in to face Philly then Pitt is going to help his already fragile confidence. If he come away from these games with a few touchdowns and a bright spot or two I'll be happy. If he can make a few plays, I'll be satisfied. I don't expect him to come in and light it up the rest of the year, just show some promise, make some plays and show Gibbs why Spurrier picked him in the first round.

One thing I don't see enough is the quarterback dumping off the ball on a quick slant during a blitz, or other such plays that kind of mess up a team's ability to blitz consistently. Also, I don't know what you all think, but I wouldn't mind seeing a situational offense, just like the way G. Williams uses his situational defenses. When we get near the goal line put in McCants and Gardner so that we have a little more leaping ability and a little more height over the corners. Also, try some different formations (I like fullhouse a lot because of our running back's receiving abilities) near the goal line.

If there are cornerbacks who are good in coverage, but maybe not as fast as some, then put in Jacobs or Coles (assuming he's still fast enough with his injury) against them.

Side note: One big thing that I have noticed about Gardner is that he doesn't have the greatest body control, I would like to see the receivers coaches work on that.
