You didn't hear right. They weren't talking about draft picks. It was in reference to current players (guys like Manning, Brady, McNabb) who have contracts but are due to expire soon who have not signed new contracts because of the CBA uncertainty

That makes more sense.

I don't think Trent or the Redskins can really be blamed for a deal not getting done. According to Mike and Mike this morning, NO 1st round picks have signed yet because they're waiting to see how the new CBA will be structured. Teams just aren't sure how these rookie contracts will affect them going forward.

I have no doubts he'll be here, somehow. He and the team understands Trent's importance to this team in 2010.
spoken by someone that hates unions? who the hell is to blame? those 2 sides are the ones sitting at the table. too me, it boils down to the athlete. the framework is already in place. so are the numbers. unless the skins are trying to play hard ball, which i doubt, he will be in camp

Wrong, they were talking about draft picks signing and specifically mentioned Jamarcus Russell not signing until September and ruining his rookie season, plus the other two instances of #1 picks not signing into July, Eli Manning and Alex Smith. Golic even asked "so 7 of the last 10 first picks have signed in April or May and no first rounders have signed this year?" I'm not saying they're accurate, but I understand what they were saying...about DRAFT PICKS.

Yes, they were also talking about Brady and Manning...but it's common knowledge they're not getting deals until after Bradford's numbers are finalized.

Allen Park --With the start of NFL training camps rapidly approaching and no first-round draft picks signed, the agent for Lions rookie Ndamukong Suh is using only one reference point in negotiations for his client.
It's not just Trent.

More from article:

Several factors have made the signing of draft picks considerably slower this year than in previous years.

No first-round picks were signed as of Tuesday morning. The Lions have two first-rounders. They drafted running back Jahvid Best of California 30th overall after acquiring the pick in a trade with Minnesota.

One factor is that Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, drafted first overall by the Rams (http://detnews.com/article/20100720/SPORTS0101/7200391/1126/rss14#), has not signed. The top pick often sets the standard, but there are exceptions.

In 2008, the Dolphins signed offensive tackle Jake Long of Michigan a few days before officially making him the first player drafted. The Lions signed Stafford the day before last year's draft.

Negotiations between the NFL owners and the players association on a new collective bargaining agreement also have made an impact. Many people are expecting a lockout by the owners next year.

There is increasing sentiment on the part of owners to get a rookie wage scale, similar to the one in place in pro basketball. Commissioner Roger Goodell has been outspoken in saying more money should go to veterans and less to rookies.

Three of the top four draft picks share the same agent based on that TW would be the last to sign of the three.

I know they talked about draft picks. When they spoke with D. Smith about contracts not having been signed due to CBA uncertainty, they were not talking about draft picks. When D Smith spoke about draft picks not having signed he actually alluded to collusion being a factor.

After D. Smith left, Greenberg mentioned that Bill Polian has said one of the hold ups in Manning's new contract is uncertainty on the new CBA, and when they spoke about Russell and the other draft picks it was again more about D. Smiths suggestion that collusion might be in play.

Greenberg did say that the CBA uncertainty is playing a factor in everything, but they weren't saying draft picks had not signed due to CBA uncertainty.

didn't they also say that the CBA is impacting the rookies because the owners are wary about guaranteeing money in the 2nd year of a deal for a season that won't take place?

That was more in reference to Polian's comments about Manning's contract situation.

NFL Exec VP Jeff Pash was on Mike and Mike this morning and he did imply that part of the reason no first round draft picks have signed was CBA uncertainty which is affecting all NFL business. But picks should start getting signed very shortly.
