I dont think Zorn was THAT bad....come on guys

To his credit....JZ had help (idiot VC) with his ineptitude.
Spurrier did it on his own.......

Not sure how an owner can hinder the horrid scheme or play calls, but what I'd really like to know is how DS effected ARE's unproductiveness?

Zorn was bad, but not Spurrier bad..........and you have to wonder, if he had bruce allen instead of vinny at the helm, would he have been more successful? I think the answer in short would be yes. But, noone in the NFL cares about circumstances, its all about the bottom line, and in that sense, he failed.

Not sure how an owner can hinder the horrid scheme or play calls, but what I'd really like to know is how DS effected ARE's unproductiveness?I think horrid play calls is a lot of revisionist history, re: Zorn. Situationally, the play calls were fine.

Ultimately, the Zorn playbook didn't have enough plays designed to attack opponents major weaknesses, which hardly mattered on a game-to-game basis, but over two years, the lack of big plays really added up. He had 1,000 different ways to convert a 3rd and 5 (all of which involves the necessity to block a three man rush with five guys), but too often, Zorn's best 1st and 10 (or 2nd and 3) play was a stretch run from a power formation. This figures to not be a problem with either Shanahan, and particularly with McNabb and play action.

Yeah I would say Zorn's offense lacked imagination and was very vanilla more than anything.

very very COUNTRY VANILLA BEAN Vanilla, frikkin running the same dive play within the 5 yd line. And when he tried to show that he had imagination, the trick plays he called looked absolutely ridiculous, silly and pathetic.

Why does ARE run sideline to sideline with the football but his mouth runs north-south?

How creative was JZ when he called the same swinging gate play back to back....did anybody know what he was thinking, and/or trying to do???

I heard Zoe Alexander on 106TheFan talk about Zorn and how he just wasn't a great leader and his speeches were very uninspired. Basically he said Zorn is a great position coach, but he's not a head coach. He was very up front and candid about it.

Tre Johnson was on the show another day recalling the Spurrier era as pure comedy. He remembered during the season the offense was headed out to practice and a bad storm hit, old ball coach turned to his staff and the offensive unit and called it off right on the spot. The defensive staff said that practice was still on for them and they were obvi pissed. Another time it was so cold out it started to sleet. Spurrier turned to Johnson and said what the hell is this stuff? Johnson chuckled and said it's sleet coach, that's what we get up here from time to time.

Yeah, I think Spurrier was definitely worse than Zorn.

Spurrier was 12-20, Zorn was 12-20.

Steve Spurrier at least won the National Championship. Hard to see Zorn doing something like that at any level.
