Actually, Colorado Springs thrives on the military. The main boulevard, Academy dead ends at the north at the Air Force Academy, and on the south end it passes by the entrance to Fort Carson, a major US Army post, and where I served. To the east is Peterson Air Base, and in the mountain to the west is NORAD. Yes the city has developed some other economies, but the wars and military spending only boost the Colorado Springs economy

FD, is there such a thing as a liberal republican?
Lionel Rivera is the Republican mayor of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Elected in April 2003 and re-elected in 2007 on a mail ballot only election, he is the first Hispanic Vice Mayor and Mayor in the history of Colorado Springs.

Yes, and we have some Dem's here in Va that are pretty conservative. I have actually voted for a few Dem's here in Va. In Va a liberal dem can only run for office in a few areas and would probably never win a state election for Governor.

I would strongly suggest just a bit more research before posting because you often aren't putting yourself in the best light with many of your posts.

Those bases not only employ military personnel, but civilians in the local area and use local civilian contractors for many base support functions. Military bases bring in huge dollars to their local economies.

Ok, so i didn't mention Northrupp Gruman or the other slew of contractors who are employed across from the USAFA or through out the region. Believe me when I say Colo Springs is a military and contractor economy.

The War makes the deficit bigger, extermely bigger? Do deficits affect city budgets?Obama and the Dems are in control now and have been since Jan. 2009. Why don't they shut the wars down, they have the power and control?

Increases in Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Interest on the national debt all make the deficit bigger not just the wars.

I'm sure the federal deficit has some affect on city budgets but I don't think its a major factor. Hell if anything Obama has that 700 and some billion for boots on the ground projects so I guess your right that deficit adding pork has done very little to help states and cities creat jobs. I guess we have now come full circle.

I am not arguing that millitary bases bring in money to local communities, they do. The money being spent on the War is mostly spent at Lockheed Martin, etc, not bases. Everytime they kill a Taliban, that's 10 million dollars please. The trillion dollars spent on the war this year has not made any solidiers richer. Hell thats enough to give every soliier how many dollars? They won't see it. Some CEO's bonus will be spent on some chick with the money we borrowed that is making our deficit stupid big.
