Brown was going to have to compete w/ a 4th round pick from Towson....that football powerhouse north of Baltimore. How in the world would New Orleans know what they had in Jermond Bushrod if he never got a chance to play? Now this 4th round pick from Towson is protecting Drew Bress' blindside. Amazing...

Would you sign Mawae? Old but solid talent.

To replace Rabach? Definitely.

Old and solid > Old and Rabach

The moves look good now but we won't know the end result until the season starts.

At this point, this is my biggest fear: The Regular Season (Jaws theme playing in background)

We have seen many off-seasons come and go, each with its own hype and hope. Everything looks SOOOO much more organized/professional/right track etc. BUT it's still off season. I can't wait till we see this team take the field, and hopefully we get to see a meaningful season.

I really wonder if the FO is even looking at him. I would absolutely be happy to see him on the team for a reasonable salary...

Anyone think this could be a problem under the current regime:

"Bushrod also is viewed as a good locker room guy. Brown didn’t have that reputation with the Saints and his conditioning sometimes had been an issue."

Saints' trade of Brown now done - NFC South Blog - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcsouth/post/_/id/10764/saints-trade-of-brown-now-done)

Just from what I've seen in how Shanahan appears to handle players (say the right thing, seemingly require the right things), I think it will become a non-issue. Under the past regime, a player like this would have been aquired at a higher cost and then allowed to "have his way". I get the feeling Shanny is very much a "put up or get the hell out" kind of guy.

Again, to me, it is the culture change that seems the most obvious. Yes, I know Shanny has his limitations. Yes, I know he has an ego the size of Alaska. Yes, he D's have not been anything to write home about and he is making a fundamental change in the way the Skins play defense. But, love or hate the switch to a hybrid 3-4, it just seems that there is a plan in place. (Let's sign 3 or 4 guys to play NT in case AH becomes a problem, lets see if we can get some quality talent at without crippling our cap or our ability to start stocking through the draft).

All this while Allen is rebuilding ties with the players who remember what winning is all about.

To me, this move is just the latest in a plan. Finally, there is method rather than just madness.

We may not win 10 games this year (although we might if T. Williams pans out and the interior lineman are able to play with consistency - i.e. same guys week in and week out), but, for the first time in three or four years, I am feeling good about our O-line.

Of course, I love the trade and cant't believe we got him at such a bargain price. However, i'm somewhat concerned that 2010 will be his only season with the team. He views himself as a LT (probably rightly so) and we're bringing him here to play RT. Early reports were that no contract would be worked out soon. I'm guessing Brown's going to make the pro-bowl at RT this year and enter free agency so he can collect LT money. Even if we offered him LT money to play RT, I honestly don't know if he would take it.

The "best case" scenario for us would be for be for Williams to struggle early on and get moved to RT. Then, with Brown at LT, we could negotiate an extension where he'd be an LT making LT money.

I am more concerned about Jammal being healthy thatn the contract.
Jammal Brwon has had a year off of football due to injury. He has had plenty of time to get in shape. If he is not in great shape at this point, I worry about his work ethic. His history of injury in the NFL is a concern. Is he recovered from his hip and hernia injuries? Did he work hard in rehab?

I don't know about this one? I like my draft picks. We'll see.
