WP: Haynesworth will skip minicamp, wants trade

Does anyone know the most amount of money that the team can fine him? It would probably not be enough.

I hope they never trade him and let him rot and gain weight on his couch.

I love how people are focusing on the player, yet this will signify a major fail by this organization....I would say both from the previous and current regimes.

To begin, I would say that AH is a major dick for doing this, but there is nothing we can do about this and in the end his reputation will take a major hit.

However, I fault this whole situation on the team for: 1. Paying a ton of money for a player that had some discipline issues (last regime). 2. Completely changing the defensive scheme that would make the team's most expensive player into something completely different (NT); and not trading him before the draft (this is whole on the current regime).

Now teams are going to low-ball the Redskins, because he has become a problem child for the team. Regardless, all parties are at fault and all lose something...well except AH who earned 21 mil. for playing a few games last season.

I just hate this whole thing. Seriously, think of the worst thing that could possibly happen to you and then ask yourself if you'd take forty million dollars for it...99% of us would at least CONSIDER it. BUT THIS IS HIS JOB.

I agree Malcolm, but today's player is all about the $$$$$$$$. You can't pay a man that kind of money guaranteed with hardly any incentives to kick ass and expect optimal performance, much less a hard work ethic.

There are many qualities Shanahan exhibited in his tenure at Denver that were less than laudatory - tremendous ego, blame shifting, personnel choices...

Being a wuss-assed coach afraid of his players was NOT one of those qualities.

Big Al is gonna be the Big Loser in this one. I was fine with him missing voluntary camp, hey, it's voluntary. But this is the big FU to Shanahan and Allen. Give it a shot Al, see how it works for you. Allen has already said he never would have signed Haynesworth for the deal he got from [blechhh] Cerrato. I just don't see Shanahan and Allen caring what Haynesworth chooses to do.

(BTW - Whenever I think of Cerrato, I throw up a little. Anyone else have this reaction?)

I just don't see Haynesworth forcing a trade on anything other than Shanahan's terms - i.e. salary cap relief and quality picks &/or players. IMHO Shanallen will gladly let Al pay back his bonus in fines.

Agreed, which I'm more pissed at the team for getting him, paying him this much, and not trading him before the draft. Now, we'd be lucky if we get a 3rd rounder for him.

Haslett's defense better be lights out this season, otherwise being a Redskins fan is going to suck big time (unless somehow we can become like those offensive juggernauts)

You know up until I heard this I was totally on the "hey he's just missing voluntary camp, and if he's been working out with his personal trainer and trying to get back to his dominant form than I don't see that as a huge deal. As long as he ends up playing and having a good season for us I don't care" bandwagon. Now I'm solidly on the "f this fat fuck" bandwagon. It's a straight bitch move to wait until the day before the mandatory minicamp to announce you were lying and you ain't attending shit, mandatory or not. I hope you get traded as long as we get decent value back (I'm fine with a 2nd rounder), or in the event you don't get traded, I hope we sit your ass the entire year and I hope you go on to have a miserable career while you piss away all the money you took from us and then end up in horrible debt like so many other pro athletes once they've retired.

This is the final nail in the coffin hopefully for the Danny in having a major say in football operations, other than signing the checks. The guy cost us a good decade almost right off the bat. He fired Norv midseason, when the man still had a winning record and a shot at the playoffs, made good with getting Marty, but canned him since he wanted more control, then hired gimmick HCs in Spurrier, then Gibbs(who was out of the game for over a decade), then hired a moron for HC. He gave millions to the new "Wheeze Kids" during the last days of the Turner era, and of course we can't forget the lousy drafts. I mean who could manage to screw up when you have 2 first rounders?( I know hindsight is 20/20, but you know JC and Rogers never lived up to their billing)

Sorry, this is a true Snyderrato. Shanahan and Allen came in and said - "Here's how we're playing the game. I am the coach, he's the GM and we decide what's best for the team. The inmates are no longer running the asylum. Get on board with that now." Who's to say Haynesworth wouldn't be a kick ass NT if he tried? Guess we will never know.

As for trading AH, F that. AH wanted to pull a Cutler on Shanahan and Shanny said "Nope."

I got nooooo problems with how Shanahan has handled it. Coaches rule, Players drool.
