WP: Haynesworth will skip minicamp, wants trade

First of all I feel vindicated for being an "Albert Hater"

Fat Albert can rot at home and watch the games on TV. The Skins don't need his BS. If the most unselfish player on the team says he is selfish, that is all I need to hear.

Unless he returns 100% of his salary for this year I say they fine him for every missed practice, and force him to decide if he wants to sit out the whole season.

Eventually he will show up and be a problem, and then they can give him the Keyshawn treatment for the last half of the year. If there is a lock out then Fatty will have successfully ruined his career, and be starting at a lock out.

Haynesworth must be the only person in the world associated with the Redskins (player, coach, employee, fan) who's actually upset the regime changed from Cerrato/Zorn to Allen/Shanahan. It's like being upset that you came to a party with Rosie O'Donnell and left with Brooklyn Decker

As of this morning, I still haven't heard that we are trying to move him. But I've been kind of busy with other stuff so I really haven't had a chance to focus on this much

ESPN radio said we had been but the team didn't like the offers. I think more to the point was the team looked into trading him around the draft time period and we were only offered like a 4th round pick and the team was not going to accept such a low offer.

Now with him being anal and the team being in a situation other teams will most likely offer less knowing we might be in a bind with AH. Which is why I'd keep him and fine him each day he doesn't show in attempts to try and recoup some of the money. Have him ride the bench for 2 or 3 games (I think Arrington said that was his worst time sitting there hearing the fans yelling at him in the back ground and not playing), then trade him for anything that the Rams will give for him or some other team that was a bad team last yr. In no uncertain terms would I trade him to a good team or a play off contender. Either he play for the Skins who might turn out to be better then expected or play for a rotten team.

With rain falling fast, the Redskins left the field after less than 30 minutes of practice on Wednesday. Following the abbreviated practice, several players addressed Albert Haynesworth's absence, and perhaps none was as outspoken as linebacker London Fletcher, who called Haynesworth "selfish" and said the highly-compensated defensive tackle "can't be depended upon."

Fletcher is the unquestioned leader of the unit, and when he speaks, it's usually worth listening to. He didn't hold anything back when discussing Haynesworth and the defensive tackle's decision to skip the mandatory minicamp.

"I agree with the assessment that Albert has made a very selfish decision. When you play a team sport, you have to look at it and think about everybody involved in the situation. This is not golf, tennis, things like that where it's an all-about-you sport. What he's decided to do is make a decision based all about him. It's no different than his attitude and his approach to last year's defense, about wanting everything to revolve around him and him making plays. And if it didn't benefit him, he wasn't really willing to do it."

Asked if the locker room could embrace Haynesworth should he return, Fletcher said:

"Obviously, he's under contract with the Washington Redskins. From a business standpoint, I don't see them giving him $32 million and trading him or giving him away. He has the option to give the money back if he really doesn't want to be here. He could always give the money back. But once he decided to take money from this organization, he's a Washington Redskin. I say, yeah, he can come back if he shows he's willing to buy into what we're doing, if he's going to be on- board with what we're trying to do. One man is not going to stop what we're trying to accomplish this year. One man is not going to stop what we're going to accomplish this year. We've got big goals set for us this year, high aspirations. Football is going to be played with him or without him. We're going to play some good football.

Obviously, we want him to be a part of it, but he has to stop being selfish."

Fletcher said he wasn't surprised by Haynesworth's decision, given his past actions and attitudes.

"He can say what he wants to say about him not wanting to be here, wanting to be traded, things like that. There's ways he can not be a Redskin. Give the money back; I'm sure they'd take it. We'll move on without him. I want teammates who I can depend on, who I can count on, who in the fourth quarter of a situation, I know is going to be there to make a play or to do his job that the defense calls -- whether it's responsibilities holding up a lineman or penetrating a gap... I need guys I can depend on. We need people we can depend on. At the end of the day, right now, he's shown that he can't be depended upon."

A while back I said this guy isn't a good teammate and now we see why. When a stand up quality guy like Fletch calls you out then you know it's bad. It's all about him and we now see that he is just not someone that we can count on. I'd honestly let his fat sloppy bacon grease ass rot on the bench.

:blah: I for one thought he would come in shape and ready to take on whatever roll he needed to play.

You can say "I told you so" any time now.

All I can say is for the 30+ mill he took we fans should be able to get something out of it.... like watching him sitting misserably on the bench for a few games and allowing the fans to ridicule him from the stands. I'd also freeze his contract. When he decids to play a yr from now he can show up at camp until he fulfills his contract or pays it back.

Head coach Mike Shanahan said on Wednesday he was disappointed that defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth has opted not to attend this week's mandatory mini-camp.

Shanahan addressed Haynesworth's absence in a post-practice media session on Wednesday.

"When I first talked with Albert back in February, and got a good feel on how he felt, and sat down and talked with his agent, we let Albert know at that time that we would give him until April 1 to go to any team he wanted in the National Football League," Shanahan said. "So if he wasn't pleased about playing nose tackle or any other position we had planned for him, that we would let him take a look at any team he wanted to go to.

"But on April 1, when we owed him a check for $21 million dollars, we said if you take that check, we do expect you to be the best defensive end, the best nose tackle--if we play you at free safety, we expect you to be the best free safety, even though he'd have to lose a little weight. Whatever position we play him at, that he would have to do the best job he possibly could and make the commitment to be the best football player.

"Obviously he took the check. So I was surprised he wasn't here [at mini-camp], because I thought he did make that commitment once he took that check, that he wanted to be a Washington Redskin and he wanted to do the best thing for the Washington Redskins to help our defense and help our team win. Obviously it didn't go in that direction. So we're quite disappointed."
Amazing detail of what has transpired, and I think we all can agree that MS/BA handled it right (if his words are to be believed). It also shows how we would be listening, without being actively shopping, much like they told JC if you find a place great, we will send you there, but we are in control. I loved this whole statement by Shanahan!!

That saying would apply if Reid and JLC were just making stuff up and one of their fabricated stories just happened to be true. However, it doesnt jive with reality. Reality is that JLC had actual SOURCES telling him Haynesworth was unhappy and wanted to be traded. Now, the majority here chose to stick their head in the sand and foolishly pretend that these were just rumors and the sources were crap. They foolishly chose to believe what Haynesworth, whose teammates refer to him as an "actor," said instead - even though anyone with any sense at all recognized that Haynesworth would be saying the exact same things whether or not he wanted to be traded or not. Hopefully, in the future, people will learn from this and not discredit JLC simply because they don't like what he has to say.Haynesworth's unhappiness was never in dispute.

The 'facts' around the case, i.e. the Redskins actively trying to trade him during the draft was what had been completely fabricated.

He also wasn't an "active" malcontent, and probably still isn't. Haynesworth wasn't taking his case to the media...the media was taking their case to Haynesworth. We shouldn't lose sight of how this all unfolded.

Now: his agent has requested a trade -- one that he's not going to get -- in order to speed of the process of getting Haynesworth out of here. I don't like it at all, but it's hardly a code red situation. It's just a selfish, dick move considering the financial circumstances. It's a slap in Snyder's face more than it's intended target, which is Shanahan.

Trades to the Vikings or Titans came close to happening but it was more about listening to offers than us reaching out to them.

The only time we truly actively tried to trade him was in discussions for McNabb. And for a split second when talking with the Saints

I really wish no team would pick him up, but unfortunately some team always is willing to take on a case-head like this. That's why these pricks keep re-appearing over and over again.
