Spent 5 hours at UW graduation ceremony today. Do they really have to have a) 10 gazillion speakers and b) 5000 students from all the schools graduating together? It was a nightmare.

That seems a bit counterproductive GMScud 06-13-2010, 12:10 PM They don't split up by school? That seems a bit counterproductive Seriously. I know at UF and every other graduation I've attended, it's always broken up by schools. saden1 06-13-2010, 12:53 PM They want brand name speakers...not everyone sxhool can get one I guess. They all walked but only 200 Ph.D. grads got their name called. DynamiteRave 06-13-2010, 04:15 PM My school was small so.. With the speakers, the commencement speaker, the name calling, everything wrapped up in about 2 1/2 hours. Sometimes being in a class with about 300 graduating students is pretty awesome. Dirtbag59 06-13-2010, 05:17 PM I remember for my high school I was in the schools first graduating class. Seeing as seniors had the choice to switch schools we only ended up with a 125 seniors. However after seeing the hassle my two brothers went through graduating with classes of 500 and 700 seniors I realized that I wanted no part of my college graduation. I mean 9 am in the Georgia heat while people you don't know give speeches. It's not like high school where at least you would know of virtually everyone in your class. With college the only people you know are the people who sat near you in class, your friends, friends of friends, and athletes. TheMalcolmConnection 06-13-2010, 05:37 PM What sucks the most about graduation is the fact that it's typically in freaking three-thousand degree heat and you're just expected to sit there in classy gear which makes you sweat even more. firstdown 06-13-2010, 07:12 PM My neice just graduated from HS and it was a joy to go and see her get her paper. That and it only lasted about an hour and 15min then off to have a good dinner and a few too many drinks paid for by my sister and her husband. Yeah thank god the graduations at UF were all held indoors. June heat in Gainesville is brutal. |
