I've voiced my opinion on police officers in general on this board, and I also think that cops are WAY to quick nowadays to use their tasers. However, in this case, they did probably did the right thing. I watched the replay of the incident, and with the 4 or 5 grounds crew guys and the cop closing in on him, they most definitely could have restrained him without the taser. But with the players' safety possibly in question (no one knew if this guy had a weapon or what his intentions were), better safe than sorry. Plus it sends a message to any other idiots who are considering running on the field of play.
After that incident in 2001 when those two guys charged that first base coach and started beating him, you just can't be too careful.

While not necessary I don't think that it was excessive either. Kid got 2 experiences that most people can't say that they've had at the same time.

Kid got what he deserved. Don't run on the field and ya won't get tasered! Sometimes life isn't so complicated.
Great photo of the moment though, huh? Whoever shot that one should get a prize.

Ah man I remember that, two knucklehead hicks just beat down that guy for no good reason. Pure scum.

i can't tell if he was going for a slide to end it just before he got tasered or if the slide was a result of the taser. either way i hope he was a eagles fan too.

Looked to me like it was the taser that took him down to the ground. Those things cause you to lose all control over your muscles, it was his momentum that made him slide when he hit.
Would have been funny to see him get tasered right before a slip & slide, see how far he would have gone!

Would have been funny to see him get tasered right before a slip & slide, see how far he would have gone!My buddy is a cop and he told me about a time he had to use the stun gun on a guy who was running around on PCP. He caught the guy with the barbs in the bare skin on his back (obviously you have no need for a shirt when you have PCP) and once the volts kicked in he said it looked like the suspect was doing his best Superman impression in mid-air. I would have paid to see that.
