that is a great question what is the reason for all these tight ends?
I think the TE situation is being blown out of proportion. After Cooley and Davis we have Sean Ryan, Lee Vickers, and UDFA Logan Paulsen. I think Dennis Morris is going to be used more as a FB/HB, so i'm not going to add him to the list. We need 3 TE's on the roster, so, in essence, it's a battle between Ryan, Vickers, and Paulsen for the 3rd TE spot. I don't think it has anything to do with Cooley or Davis, we're just looking for that 3rd TE.

Taking a look at how Saturday's moves impact other Redskins

UPDATED at 3:23 p.m.

We could be staring at a couple of slow news days for the Redskins, but hopefully later today we'll have a longer list of the team's undrafted free agents. For now, we know they've locked up the following players:
Ohio State safety Anderson Russell
UCLA tight end Logan Paulsen
Eastern Arizona defensive tackle Marques Slocum
Wisconsin linebacker Jaevery McFadden
LSU running back Keiland Williams
Penn State quarterback Daryll Clark

He might eventually be an upgrade all over the place. In any short yardage, goal line situations, running plays he will be involved. With Sellers and Morris we finally have two mean stout shit kickers that can play at TE/FB/H-back postions.
I see Cooley's play time getting cut into as well in short yardage and certain run plays.
I know Morris played against weak competition in college. But what really impressed me with Morris beside his physical play is his hands and speed and ability to track the ball in the air. When he went out in motion and played as a wide out he showed some great eye to ball to hand skills potential that only great receivers have. He is a big project, but great upside. I like this pick.

I agree....And I also like the way he sustains his blocks yards down the field. He's a good receiver (can probably even split him out wide in some formations) his YAC and strength is ideal for a player of his positions. Hope he develops as well, if he does we have a real player on our hands.

Redskins reportedly sign Penn State's Daryll Clark

Redskins' General Manager Bruce Allen said Saturday the team would pursue an undrafted quarterback, and they've apparently found one they liked. The team has signed Penn State quarterback Daryll Clark as an undrafted rookie free agent, according to WFMJ-TV in Youngstown, Ohio.

A two-year starter, Clark is Penn State's all-time leader in touchdowns (43) and also set single-season marks his senior year in passing yards (3,003) and touchdowns (24). Clark reportedly also had offers the Vikings, Packers and Rams and there were rumors he'd signed Saturday night with the Steelers.

If the television report is true, Clark would become the team's fifth quarterback on its roster, joinign Donovan McNabb, Rex Grossman, Colt Brennan and Richard Bartel.

The Vindicator, Clark's hometown newspaper in Youngstown, reported Sunday afternoon that Clark had yet to sign with a team, but the Redskins appeared to be the front-runner. "That's still pending, though," his father, Daryll Sr., told the Vindicator.

While the team's list of signed undrafted free agents continues to grow today, the Redskins have also invited a handful of players in for tryouts, including Murray State receiver Derrick Townsel, Stanford safety Bo McNally, Wisconsin linebacker Jaevery McFadden and Colorado State safety Klint Kubiak.

Former Penn State quarterback Daryll Clark signed with the Washington Redskins, he confirmed in a text message.

Clark, the first-team all-conference quarterback last season, threw for 3,003 yards with a 60.9 completion percentage in 2009.
In his two seasons as starting quarterback for Penn State, Clark led the Nittany Lions to a Rose Bowl berth and a Capital One Bowl victory.

In Washington, Clark will be playing alongside quarterback Donovan McNabb who was recently traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Redskins.

if it hasn't been mentioned, we want a good blocking TE that can also lead block out of the fullback position, prob gonna have him and the kid from the 6th round battle it out.. along with Sean Ryan I suppose

well if its not obvious by now, let me go ahead and spell it out. The Skins have drafted 3 offensive linemen, have about 5 tight ends on the roster, and have loaded up with 3 pro bowl running backs. I think there is a possibility that Shanny is planning on running the football. Just a thought. Just a possibility.
