Healthcare costs: A less taxing proposal - latimes.com (http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/opinionla/la-ed-obesity-20110411,0,3157293.story)

Well under universal health care it does not matter who tries to take care of their health because everyone pays the same thing. On one hand people think the fat, smokers, drinkers, etc... should pay more for their coverage but they then say universal coverage for everyone no matter their health issues. If they did tax fat food the money would just get waisted in the states general funds like the tobacco money did when the states won that big settlement.

Smoking and obesity right into Nazis eh
Sure theres a sharp contrast, but i kind of treat most things in life like that, no matter how simple or non-threatening. I guess i just think even things that presumably dont affect you, do.

It works:
Private companies already are trying similar strategies, with financial incentives (http://lat.ms/efQbwb) for employees who make the kinds of smart decisions that are associated with better health. Safeway (http://www.latimes.com/topic/economy-business-finance/safeway-inc.-ORCRP013417.topic), for instance, offers significant discounts on health insurance premiums to employees who don't smoke and who maintain healthy weight, blood-pressure and cholesterol levels. The company reported that its per-person healthcare costs remained flat for four years during which such costs rose 38% for most companies.
And it's common sense:
Not all rock climbers have serious accidents, either, but they still pay more for life insurance, when they can find it.

America is turning into a Wall-E like society. Clearly the porcupines of this country don't have self-control and require the government telling them what to eat and how to live before it's too late.

The trick with fat unhealthy people is to hope they die at a very young age before they start to cost the system money.

Chicago Elementary School Bans Lunches Brought From Home - FoxNews.com (http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/04/11/chicago-elementary-school-bans-lunches-brought-home/?test=latestnews)
Schools get more Federal funding based on the number of students enrolled in the National School Lunch Program. I work with these numbers firsthand.
They're just trying to boost their numbers with this move.
Some city schools have 70,80, even 90+% enrollment in "free lunches". I know urban areas typically have poverty issues, but you can not tell me that only 1 out of 10 kids live in a home where parents can afford to make them a PB&J sandwich. I think more kids gets enrolled because the schools are pushing it, and the parents are too lazy to take care of their kids. There are actually school districts where you have to opt out instead of sign up, because they don't want anyone to "feel bad about asking for assistance".
Some school officials I've heard on a local talk radio show claimed that a lot of city school students wake up before their parents, whose career is collecting welfare, not actually working. The kids have to get themselves up, try to find breakfast or eat it at school...and get lunch provided. Sad.
We all know Chicago is one of the biggest welfare places there is. This move just motivates parents even LESS to take care of their kids.
