Proof that we now have professionals running this team. Great pick. If I recall correctly, alot of mock drafts had us taking Carriker in 2007 at 6th overall (him or Okoye). We got Landry (who I'm still high on) and get Carriker 3 years later for moving down 28 slots in the 5th round.....great job.

why do we need more picks? we traded our 2nd and got a franchise QB. we traded a 5th for a former 1st rounder who Haslett feels will be an ideal DE in our new 3-4. The only picks this new coaching staff have traded have yielded Day 1 starters. Its rare that 2nd and 5th rounders amount to that.

Its not like years past when we traded 3rd and 4th round picks for TJ Ducket and Brandon Lloyd. Its not like 2008 when we traded a 2nd and 6th for Jason Taylor. We're not just pissing away our picks. Would I like to acquire more picks - hell yes. But if we dont, i'm satisfied that we traded our picks for players who will fit our system and who project to be starters in 2010, 2011, and 2012, at the least.

The only think i'm upset about is using a 3rd rounder on Jarmon. If we had kept the 4-3, it would have been a great move. however, in retrospect, its a completely wasted pick. Jarmon really doesnt fit anywhere in a 3-4 scheme... I can't beleive we're moving him to OLB.

And you base this on what, exactly?

If I'm correct, he was regarded more as a 4-3 DE than a 3-4 OLB, but he has the size and speed and now Lou Spanos as a position coach.
Jeremy Jarmon: 6-3, 277 lbs, 4.71
DeMarcus Ware: 6-4, 262lbs, 4.6

It's also only been one season. I think Jarmon was a good pick-up last year. Plus, if he was in the draft this year I think he would easily go in the 2nd rd.

I'll see if I can get a hold of Kiper Jr. to see what he thinks about Jarmon's value in this year's draft.

I've been playing these converted DEs as LBs and they don't have the agility to cover anybody on Madden. We'll look like we're defending the endzone on every play with 7 DLs! Ha!

Although Jarmon is a fine player and you likely are right about his going in the 2nd round, if Jarmon doesn't fit a 3-4 in the long term then he was an unintentionally wasted pick. I'm not saying he won't, I'm just saying "if." They say he's lost weight from the 277 lbs. you mentioned. Maybe he'll gain speed from the weight loss.

That would be something I'd be VERY interested to hear. Now that I think about it Scouts Inc most likely gave Jarmon a grade last year so that should give us an idea of his overall value as a prospect.

Bastard McShay didn't give him a final overall grade:

With Orakpo saying that he will be playing mostly on the right side at OLB (via an interview), it looks like Jarmon may work out well playing on the left side OLB. The grading from Scouts Inc., shown by Dirtbag, seems to support the transition.
