GusFrerotte 04-18-2010, 08:25 PM When the mandatory portion of training begins and Albert does not show up in shape and ready to play, that will be cause for real concern.
I think by Shanahan reluctantly dealing with him doing his own thing, he's expecting him to make good on his promise to show up in better shape than he did last year. Perhaps the decision has been made that it makes business sense to keep Haynesworth on the roster. Media reports (as well as fans) have been driving his trade, spoken more from an emotional standpoint than a business one. I can't think of a single reason why it would not benifit the Redskins to have Albert Haynesworth on the team.
If we could get at least 2 2nd rounders for AH, that is enough to want me to trade him. I would dangle him in front of the Lions FO. Just think about it. They acquire AH, then draft Suh!!! The Lions would eat up the NFC North almost automatically. If the FO really wanted to get rid of AH, I would try to seduce the guys in my hometown of Allen Park into taking AH. Also, by doing this you assure us of getting Okung.

Bad deal for us unless we can swap the #2 and #4 picks in the deal.
jdc65 04-19-2010, 02:18 PM If Detroit takes Okung, it could be possibe a trade is brewing. I do not think they would trade 2-2nd rounders, but a 2nd this year along with a conditional pick next year. I would be ok if we got Suh and Saffold along with a 3rd next year. Saffold/Suh are both plug-n-play, and now is a good time to accumulate picks for next year.

not really. trent williams is a better fit for us. i'm actually hoping Detroit takes Okung as they'd be taking a player we dont need, and, at the same time, increasing the likelyhood that were able to trade down.

I'm pretty surprised more boards don't have us taking Trent Williams over Okung, arguably the most versatile and maybe the best OT in the draft.
I have a feeling because Okung has been so built as the best tackle and a foregone pick for the Redskins, many will fly of the hinges if don't draft him.

I will if it's Clausen or somehow Bradford.
If we take a player that we really need for the position, I'll trust Bruce Allen and Shanny, as long as we can address OT somehow.

I see our 4th pick as an opportunity to really improve the team. I'll be disappointed in the short term if we take a QB. Slightly less so if we just take a OT. I'd much rather everything work out perfectly for us and we can trade back a few spots...pick up a 2nd or 3rd and still take a OT.

Trent Williams looks very good on film and in terms of combine numbers but in watching Okung you will see a guy who is flat out dominant in pass protection with numerous highlights of him literally throwing guys on running plays. That pass protection element is important as it will force the Cowboys to need someone else besides Ware to step up when they play us. Also don't forget about Osi and Cole.
Okung kept defenders about 3 or 4 yards away from the QB while Williams would stop guys but they'd be about 1 or 2 yards away from the QB. Again if you're a player you're happy with the 1 or 2 yard separation but in a toss up it's no doubt that Okung is the better player.
And finally during the great QB vs O-Line debates I never saw someone randomly type WILLIAMSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! rather it was always some guy randomly showing up typing nothing but "OKUNGGGGGGGG!!!!!!"

That would be ideal. we need both LT and RT. At 4, no one we would take would really satisfy me. Okung is not the best fit for our zoneblocking offense. Trent Williams has tremendous potential, but really isnt worth the 4th overall pick as he's also somewhat of a gamble. ideally, we can trade back a bit and pick up some more picks.
If we trade back and remain in the top 10-12 in the draft, we can probably come out with a left tackle. if we trade back any further, we're proably going to get a right tackle - but accumulate more picks in the draft. At this point, i favor the later option.
I'd be very happy if we traded down to the lower part of the 1st round, picked up a 2nd rounder this year and next, drafted Mike Iupati to play RT (potential to play LT down the road) and then picked up Flozell Adams after the draft. The guy can still play at a high level and would be fine for a year or two. Or, we could use one of our newly acquired 2nd rounders and trade for Jamaal Brown.
SmootSmack 04-19-2010, 03:31 PM I've said pretty consistently I believe since February that I think Williams is the guy we're really targeting. Not based on anything other than he seems to fit so much with what Shanahan looks for (versatile, athletic, greater upside, even the fact that he's a bit of a risk I think appeals to Shanny).
I think ideally though they get Williams later in the draft, not at 4. I think if we're stuck at 4 and if it's Williams vs. Okung at #4 they should go with Okung. He's the surer (more sure?) thing. And at #4 I want the sure thing. Williams has tremendous upside, but that also means he has huge bust potential.
But if we can trade down and pick up Williams plus another player, I'll take that over Okung at 4. I don't think Okung is head and shoulders above the rest of the OLs in this draft class.
