So i had a crazy thought. With the Rams likely to select Bradford, and the Redskins signing McNabb, but not immediately extending his contract, the Redskins are in prime position to corner the QB market this offseason if they selected Jimmy Clausen with the #4 overall pick.
Oakland and Buffalo, at minimum, would be willing to give us a favorable deal for the QBs of their choice, as they would have no other viable alternatives (Colt McCoy and Tim Tebow are nowhere near ready to start). Here's what we could conceivably do and how it would play out:
1) Get Oakland and Buffalo (and whoever else is interested) in a bidding war for Clausen (and/or McNabb).
2) Whoever offers the best deal gets either Clausen or McNabb.
3) The loser gets Jason Campbell for an above-market price.
4) The Redskins get McNabb or Clausen as its franchise QB and a plethora of draft picks and players
5) I am heralded as a genius for calling it over a week in advance
Then it all backfires when Pittsburgh puts Roethlisberger into the mix as trade bait.
