why no extension?skinsfaninok 08-03-2010, 08:39 PM Lmao Dirtbag59 08-03-2010, 08:54 PM Well at least everyone read it. GusFrerotte 08-03-2010, 09:18 PM They guy isn't old like Favre, but he isn't a spring chicken either. This guy is probably going to be a boom for us, but still can end up being overrated. I don't think he is ever going to be a bust, but there is a small chance he isnt the "savior" we are looking for at QB either. artmonkforhallofamein07 08-03-2010, 09:40 PM Well at least everyone read it. Was this out of the Washington Post? Technically it's from a Philly paper. But I found it reposted on PFT. Monkeydad 08-04-2010, 09:33 AM Technically it's from a Philly paper. But I found it reposted on PFT. Two great sources you have there. :D GMScud 08-04-2010, 12:32 PM It's an I dunno. There's no franchise tag to use without a CBA. But there's also no free agency to have to protect them from. In the absence of free agency, McNabb wouldn't be eligible to go to anyone else unless we allowed him to. We'd, essentially, own his rights until traded or retired or relased. Players won't play under a system like that, so that's why the easiest solution is to just postpone the league year until they can figure out what to do with the franchise tag. They very well might get rid of it in a bargaining chip, but he's our quarterback. We don't need a franchise tag. If we want him, and pay him like we want him, he will stay. I wouldn't be so sure. He loves Brad Childress, and I think he would have chosen Minny over DC any day of the week, Shanahan or not. That Vikings team is WAY better than our Redskins. If the Vikings are Favre-less after this season, I would expect McNabb to head north. Why wouldn't he? I'd take that team over our current version of the Redskins any day. He's going to have to win early, and stay healthy, and convince BA that it's money well spent. And if he's having fun here, and things are working out, I can assure you that he'd much rather beat up on Philly for three seasons than go to Minnesota and play the role of Brad Childress futility watchdog. But yeah, if things go the other way this season, and we underachieve, we probably won't show him the contractual love he's looking for, and he's got a fairly acceptable plan B elsewhere if he hits the market. The fact that we haven't given him a Delhomme-type extension ($20 mil guaranteed) yet is slowly but surely placing my faith back in the front office. If he earns it on the field, I say: pay him. We have done a great job in surrounding him with a quality cast in such a short period of time. Maybe not as good as Minnesota but with another year or two it very well could be. McNabb loves it here and the chance to beat the Eagles twice a year is something he's going to relish. And as much as he likes Childress, McNabb knows that the Redskins have a better coaching staff and offensive system with Mike and Kyle and a lot of times the quality of the coaching staff is enough to overcome personel problems. Anyway just wait for the Brady and Manning deals to get completed. Thats what the Skins and McNabb are waiting on. |
