BigHairedAristocrat 04-12-2010, 12:53 PM Well, I don't think the article weighs in on that part of this debate, but it gives a good view of AH's view and personality.
most definitely, although the article didnt really tell us anything we didnt already know.
SmootSmack 04-12-2010, 12:57 PM I love the Candle commercial.
I also love scathing sarcasm.
sala!

Yeah I guess I am in April Fools mode still. Well not really, I have given up getting upset at stupid posts. Best way of dealing with them IMO.

well played
Skinny Tee 04-12-2010, 02:32 PM Like the majority of posters I am siding with Shanahan here, if for no other reason than to support in the broadest terms the general change in discipline and atmosphere at Redskins Park that, needed for so long, Shanahan's arrival appears to be precipitating.
BUT, for some reason there exists a tendency amongst Redskins fans to severely underrate the impact that Haynesworth had on this team last season. Yes, he appeared to get injured several times a game, he huffed and puffed and didn't always seem in optimum shape, and he certainly came off poorly when criticizing Blache's defensive scheme in the media, in particularly uncharitable terms. Nevertheless, when on the field and firing on all cylinders he was every bit the disruptive, menacing force we paid for. It's not a coincidence that Carter and Orakpo both hit double-digit sacks for the year, Carter resurrecting a career that had seemed on the wrong side of done only a season prior.
AH might not be a guy I would choose to have a beer with; and in the end, he might not be a guy the new regime feels it can work with. Fine. But what is so headscratching is the perception - perpetuated by both the media and fans - that he was a bust for us last season. Albert played like one of the best DT's in the league last year.
How about the fact that they are actively trying to trade him away from the organization after signing him within hours of free agency opening?
How about the fact that they couldn't successfully trade him to another organization? He's on the block right now and no teams are fawning over him like Skins fans are over Brandon Marshall.
Somehow his playing value has diminished from the most highly sought after free agent, deserving $41M gauranteed within hours of free agency, to not tradeable even when you actively try to do so in a salary cap free environment.
Simple fact is that his perceived value around the league doesn't line up with his playing contract. Thus us having a hard time finding a trade partner.
If you think his value hasn't diminished then perhaps you are the only viable trade partner for the Skins.
Dirtbag59 04-12-2010, 02:33 PM Exactly...that's why SmootSmack was renamed "The Artist Formerly Known as SmootSmack" and then went by "TAFKAS"
(If I talk about myself in the 3rd person but am actually talking about an old screenname of mine...does that mean I'm talking in the 4th person?)
I think you're mistaking yourself for Doug Williams.

Well in fairness the teams that were most active in getting him last year aren't in the running for the trade this year. Tampa knows it will get a stud DT in the draft, and although we made some offer to Philly, I doubt seriously that we are going to trade AH to the Giants in division. So to say how come he isn't demanding the same market, maybe because teams moved on once he was off the market.
And, we are not ACTIVELY looking for partners, we are passively listening to offers. The difference is like active radar in subs versus passive radar. Active radar means you are initiating the pings, you are putting out the noise to see what is reflected back to you. Passive radar means you are quiet, and listen to the noises in the water around you to see if something of interest is near you. Same thing with AH. Before April 1st we were active, to see if we could get someone else to take the 21 million dollar payout. Shockingly, there were no takers, so now that we have paid it, we are in a passive mode. Sure everyone knows that he could be had, but we are not wheeling and dealing him, but that wouldn't stop us from reacting if the right offer came along.
Remember that now his playing contract is basically 3 years for 16million. Lots of teams would take that contract, but not give up draft picks that we want in exchange. And at that remaining contract he remains an appealing player for our roster as well.
Monkeydad 04-12-2010, 03:59 PM I can't believe we're actually having a discussion about this...what's so logical about calling him Fatal Bert? His name's not Bert, he's not dying, he didn't kill anyone

It really is stupid. They will win more games next year with or without Phat Albert. The only person who has been fatal for this franchise was Vinny.
Albert is so far down the list of our problems when it comes to winning football games it is comical.
It is real annoying to hear Albert takes all the hatred of fans because he signed a 4 year 48 million dollar contract. We went after him, he didn't beg to come here. He signed up to be a 4-3 DT and never wanted to play in a 3-4. He made that clear. So Al should get some benefit of the doubt.
I still think he should have come to the offseason workouts to support the new coach but this whole mess isn't all of Albert's fault. And btw, he is still probably the best player on our team.
KC625 04-12-2010, 04:20 PM CRedskinsRule,
I think you meant SONAR. Radar is for finding things in the air. Sonar is for things in the water. That aside, good point.
