Ruhskins 04-05-2010, 01:23 PM First of all, Reid is not > Shanahan.
Secondly, I don't beleive for one second that Reid wanted to trade McNabb to anyone, let alone us. I think this trade is a clear indication that Reid has lost tremendous power within the organization and I think he's out if the Eagles don't go to the superbowl this season.
An 8-8 season or less for Reid will mean his ticket out of Philly.
Slingin Sammy 33 04-05-2010, 01:24 PM Faith, faith, faith, trust the process, faith.
I went to the people who could give me the most substantial analysis the quickest. Most were media-types, though not newspaper columnists. Two were just people I have worked with in the past (at MVN). They are all good sources of football knowledge, as I would hope they would say the same about me.It's not a matter of "trust the process" & faith.
My opinion of this, based on the games I reviewed and what I saw last season, it's a good move for the Skins. But who cares what I think, what do I know? Well, the guys that are getting paid 7 figures per year to win games in DC have come the the same conclusion as me and many others here....Jason Campbell is not an effective starting QB in the NFL.
McNabb isn't a long-term answer, but he does give us a viable starting QB option for at least 3 years. That gives the FO more time to find a long-term solution at QB rather than having to find a starting LT & QB in the same off-season.
GTripp0012 04-05-2010, 01:25 PM Tripp, normally I would agree with you, but I would have to disagree here in regards to Reid and the McNabb trade. Reid appears like he didn't want to get rid of McNabb. Did you see the presser? Reid looked like a hostage in a ransom video.I thought he looked loose, but whatever, I was probably just as logically incorrect to appeal to Reid's expertise as Pocket$ was to appeal to Shanahan's. I can admit when I've said something wrong.

lol. I watched it last night and you could tell Reid was not happy. He just looked like he lost his best friend.

People are very split on Jason Campbell's long term prospects, which is fair. A lot of smart people don't think he's got much future value. Basically no one thinks McNabb is going to be a quality quarterback beyond age 35. That's the biggest difference.
As a one year stop gap, I'm not against McNabb here, but the compensation was way too high for a guy with a year remaining on his contract. You've got to lowball that sh-t. 5th rounder or lower. The 2nd rounder for a 33 year old former probowler near the end of a long term contract was the Vinny specialty.
The Eagles weren't going to give up McNabb for a 5th rounder. The price was at least a 2nd and there were other teams more than ready to give that up.
SirClintonPortis 04-05-2010, 01:29 PM Really, is Tripp accusing others of faith when he's the one trusting ambiguous evidence and the interpretation of said evidence. He keeps on appealing to "normal stats" like yds, completion percentage, even though it is easy to establish as FACT that "normal stats" have ambiguities that simply cannot be assumed away; silliness like sack frequency UNAMBIGUOUSLY tells someone whether or not a QB has slow feet, even though guys like Steve Young had their fair share of 30+ sack seasons; the only sure thing the sack stat tells me is that the QB went to the ground with the ball in his hand X number of times. Basically, stats are an inference device that do not tell the whole picture, and he loves using this incomplete picture to propagate his snobbery-derived views.
skinsfan69 04-05-2010, 01:30 PM I accept your rebuttle re: McNabb =! Delhomme.
Delhomme is closer to McNabb though than McNabb is close to the Brees/Rivers/Brady/Manning/Manning category. Those guys play 16 games pretty much every season. McNabb hardly ever does. In that way, he's similar to Delhomme in terms of age decline.
But I'm not expecting a McNabb meltdown this year. Just pointing out: it's coming sooner rather than later.
Time will tell. I think he's got 4 good years left.

In 2007 & 2009 he played 14 games, returning from minor injuries in each season. In 2005 & 2006 he had season ending injures. "hardly ever does" does not compute.
GTripp0012 04-05-2010, 01:33 PM I know you love Reid but c'mon the real count is
Shanahan 2
Reid 0
2 as in ringsShanahan also leads in head coaching firings, and I'll put 1:1 odds on Shanahan getting "fired" here (includes a forced step-down) before he retires. So there's something else Shanahan could lead 2-0 in.
Not to put the tombstone on Shanahan before anything happens, but I think Reid has a much longer leash in the wake of this trade than anyone thinks. Neither coach has a job on the line this year. But Reid will win again in the NFL, and Shanahan's got a big rebuilding project on his hands.
