CRedskinsRule 04-05-2010, 08:08 AM Schefter on Mike and Mike says there have been NO contract talks at all between the Skins and McNabb. Beemnseven 04-05-2010, 08:22 AM Why this trade isn't being met with the skepticism of bringing in an older declining vet, like early Snyder moves, is beyond my understanding. Was McNabb very good or excellent in his prime, yes, I know I hated watching him beat up on us in the early 2000's. But that's not the McNabb we are getting, and we gave up too much to get him. Again, the Warpath poll was 3 to 1 against bringing him here. Where are all the people who talk about the Eagles getting rid of a guy a year early, and how wise that is. Well we just received the guy they got rid of, and in a year (even assuming McNabb signs an extension which we have no obvious guarantee) we will be back with no QB, or a 35 yo with declining ability and one less pick, and no young qb to groom (like McCoy or Tebow reasonably could have been). Well said. All of what you've said is perfectly valid. I suspect that many who were against McNabb at the outset have no choice but to accept what's happened because we're Redskins fans and Donovan McNabb is now a Redskin. We have to deal with less picks in the draft than just about every team every single year. I'm sick of that, and it's not something I expected with Shanahan and Allen. Clearly, they aren't following the 'rebuild and suck it up for a year or two' rule. They are all in to win right now. I don't like the draft situation, but I'm betting they'll do all they can to trade down and pick up more as they go along. johno 04-05-2010, 08:28 AM This could work out for 1 season but all it does is delay the inevitable fact that the Skins dont have a long term franchise QB and until they solve that problem its going to be more of the same. we have so many holes on this team, we can't address them all in one year. we now can take a LT without hesitation. mcnabb is a great stop gap measure. he will serve us well for a couple of years until there is a young qb available in either the draft/fa that the shannys like. mcnabb is an upgrade over JC, and he is now on our team, no idea why this is seen as a bad move. warpaint 04-05-2010, 08:38 AM JC is going to bring us a 2nd round pick. McNabb knows our new offense, he has ran it for 11 seasons. He knows the Eagles Offense and Defense in and out. Thats two wins right there. johno 04-05-2010, 08:40 AM There are some pretty bold statements in the link below written by John Clayton over at ESPN, including this little number: "The McNabb trade makes the Redskins and Cowboys the early favorites to win the NFC East, and puts the Eagles, who have moved 10 players this offseason, into just a wild-card possibility at best." Wow John Clayton, thats a little too bold. I mean god knows I hope its true, but sheesh. NFL: In obtaining Donovan McNabb from the Philadelphia Eagles, the Washington Redskins have greatly improved their playoff chances - ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=5055486) SmootSmack 04-05-2010, 08:52 AM Interesting... Campbell wasn't told of trade | Washington Examiner (http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/sports/blogs/redskins-confidential/Campbell-wasnt-told-of-trade-89888252.html) Is this for real? Campbell has given multiple answers to this question "reporter called me" "saw it on tv" "friend texted me" "coach called me". I'm not sure why he's giving different answers, but it's hard to know which one is true Some other thoughts on other posts in this thread- -If we got a 2nd for Campbell straight up, that would be redonkulous. An absolute steal considering how weak the market has been for him -Matt Williamson is great but Mosley isn't trying to "sell a story" anymore than he is -Mosley has had, by his own admittance, conflicted thoughts on this trade. He's not totally anti-McNabb to the Skins, nor pro -Mosley is not a Redskins hater. Some people think that because he worked for the Dallas Morning News, but it's actually far, very far, from the truth -Don't look at this trade in a vacuum. More moves will be made. Best to judge things three weeks from now -This was not a Snyder move. As I understand it, Bruce Allen was actually the first one to suggest making a move for McNabb SmootSmack 04-05-2010, 08:55 AM Schefter on Mike and Mike says there have been NO contract talks at all between the Skins and McNabb. He also said there will be soon joethiesmanfan 04-05-2010, 09:02 AM This could work out for 1 season but all it does is delay the inevitable fact that the Skins dont have a long term franchise QB and until they solve that problem its going to be more of the same. He is an accomplished QB what more could you want? Ummm let me take a wild guess. CRedskinsRule 04-05-2010, 09:05 AM JC is going to bring us a 2nd round pick. This would minimize my dislike of the trade, but I don't see it happening. McNabb knows our new offense, he has ran it for 11 seasons. I've heard that said, but Kyle is our OC and calling plays, did Houston run the same offense as his dad? I don't know, I am asking because I would say Houston didn't seem to be a WCO. He knows the Eagles Offense and Defense in and out. Thats two wins right there. I doubt that. Oct 26th game, we lost but here are the comparable stats ........................................YPC..TD..I NT..Rating J. Campbell...29/43...284...6.6...2.....1.....91.6 D. McNabb....15/25...156...6.2...1.....0.....91.4 Nov 29th game, we lost, but led in the 4th quarter 24-16 and the defense gave up 11 points J. Campbell...22/37...231...6.2...2.....2.....73.1 D. McNabb....21/35...260...7.4...1.....1.....80.7 MTK 04-05-2010, 09:07 AM He's a 33 which is not old for a QB in this league. Look at some of the playoff QBs last year, Warner 37, Favre 40, Manning 33, Brees 30. It's not uncommon for guys to play well into their late 30s these days. So I'm really not understanding those that think McNabb is going to be done in a year or two. He could easily play another 5 years, especially in an offense like this that is going to feature the run. |
