Okung would easily be our best tackle if drafted today.
As would any of the tackles projected to go in the first two rounds of the draft today.
When Stephon Heyer is the best tackle on your team, then something is clearly wrong. OT is by far the most pressing need on our team right now.
We need atleast 2, and preferably three, tackles better than Heyer on this team by the start of the season.
EDIT: An argument could easily be made that Hicks is the best Tackle on our team. However, i havent heard him officially be spoken of as anything other than a starting RG or backup T/G.

Absolutely. Our o-line would be upgraded with that one pick alone.

When did LT's become such a vouge pick. It seemed like back in the 80's a guy like Okung might have lasted to till the back end of round 1.

This is exactly how I feel. Get our tackle in the second round or trade for Gaither.
In my eyes on a scale of 1 to 10 in importance I got QB at 10 and LT at 6-7.
The more i think about it, the mro eI feel that Gaither for our 37th would be a perfect trade.

Its just how the talent stacked this year. It is easier at this time to project Suh and Okung have enough talent and play at positions where they will play right away... and make difference.

When offensive lines play like ours did in 2009, drafting a tackle is super vogue.

Tebow, the best Qb out the draft. SEC rules!!!

I just glanced through the draft results in the 80s and nearly every year there were tackles taken in the top 5, top 10, top 15, etc.

The amount of utility the QB provides to the team is not infinite and is not unaffected by the dudes around him.
And besides, who would make a big transaction without some sort of insurance? Having an LT is a good insurance policy for a QB, especially one that's commanding top 4 money.

I like Tebow in alot of was and do think that his intangibles will make him sucessful. Regardless of what analyst (and us fans) think, it's impossible to measure how much a guy wants it. If you get a guy who is willing to give up his life (in a work ethic sense) to achieve something, I'll bet on that guy every time.
However, we are not taking him 4th overall and I doubt he falls to us when we pick in the 2nd round. I hope, and believe, that Tebow will have success at the NFL level if he goes to the right situation.
That being said, I would love to get the winningest QB in college history with our 2nd round pick.....Colt McCoy.
