Gaither would bring something that our offense (particularly our o-line) doesn't have a lot of and that's stability, but that's a big boy to be asking to zone block

I still think that maybe the plan is to see the zone blocking scheme work with bigger lineman. Of course trading for Gaither and giving him a new contract would be the huge step towards committing to that philosophy. Still even though he's not the best zone blocker he's still a punishing run blocker that's more then capable of protecting a QB's blind side.

Also for what it's worth Shanahan does seem to be trying to correct a few of the things that hurt him when he was in Denver. One of those things was the difficulty his lines faced blocking the bigger D-Lines around the league so now he might be thinking that getting bigger O-Lineman could neutralize the effect. Think about it, right now we're looking at a line that with our current roster could feature Dockery (LG), BMW (RG), and Artis Hicks (RT). If Gaither was acquired that would be 4 "power" types. Rinehart is also a traditional power type.

I don't know if it is him trying to correct the problems that he had in Denver or if it is more him just tailoring the scheme to the players that are here. I do agree with you that he realizes what division he is in and probably needs a bigger line than he typically had in Denver.

One thing that I am happy about is that he didn't bring in 2 pro-bowl runningbacks to primarily "pitch and catch" it. We are going to be a run first team and we finally have a coach who understands that the system's success is based on his players not that players will be successful based on the system.

Gaither really doesn't fit this offense. I would not give up our second on a RFA Tackle, but I would (If we get a QB in the first, especially Bradford) trade Campbell, Landry, and Andre Carter for draft picks, I believe you could get a second at best for Jason Campbell, a third for Laron, and a fourth for Andre Carter (Also a 7th most likely for Anthony Montgomery). If you take the 2nd+3rd+4th that should be able I believe to get a late first round pick, to get a solid left tackle like Charles Brown, or Roger Saffold. Go with Brown or Saffold instead of Gaither is my point.
Campbell isn't going to draw a 2nd.. probably not a 3rd.. maybe not a 4th

again I don't think you're right, because how does a QB like Whitehurst whose never played a down in the NFL get traded for a third, but a young QB whose played four full seasons in the NFL, and played well behind a crappy OL not get a third atleast.

I find your lack of faith in Whitehurst disturbing. It's obvious that he wasn't allowed to play simply because the NFL couldn't handle Brady, Manning, AND Whitehurst competing for Super Bowls at the same time. It's better to have two superstars and everyone else.

Also you are not debumping this pic! People need to understand how freaking imtimidating this man is:

the same way a QB gets drafted 1st overall, potential or what somebody sees in him

Whitehurst isn't the standard and JC isn't old but he's not young either, Whitehurst is just a tad younger than him.

Just like not every Randy Moss will only take a 4th to get

If we were offered and 2nd for Campbell you can pretty much bank that we would have 2 picks in the 2nd as of now. And if somebody was willing to offer it, they already would have.

because with JC you know what you're getting so he may not be worth another teams pick, with Whitehurst they may see potential beyond a QB they could get in the 3rd. i do think JC is worth a 2nd/3rd round pick but to other teams he may not be.
