Agree with this. Plus I'm not even sure Gaither fits what we need. And from what I understand he basically needs a round the clock babysitter to get him to practice, keep him alert during film sessions...do we need someone like that really? Are we trying to go with an all Terps OL or something?

This quote, plus the one above saying the guy is "slow." Does he have Down's Syndrome or something?

Pretty easily actually. When someone has that much talent and doesn't want to work to get better or fulfill those talents, I call that an underachiever. What do you call it?

Not sure of their depth situation but the fact the Ravens are willing to let a young lineman get away like this is telling.

All I've read are some vague accusations about him not being keen on practice at college and not being up to scratch with his grades. I've not seen any criticism of his actual play, either at college level or in the pros.

I've also read that the Ravens would be very happy to keep him but they do have a ready-made replacement for him in Oher.

Ugh...forget it then. I am out...

I thought it was fishy why they didn't just want to pay him...you can never have to many good OT's. Thats why I guess.

I'd take him...and another OT at #4. We'd be set.

From what I understand, that's why the Ravens want to trade him. Another talented underachiever.

listening to ravens radio, he has problems showing up and working hard. the ravens really like him, i think i heard he was rated the no 6 tackle last year, gave up one sack last year with a bad arm.

ravens sources said while they really like gaither but they think he has hit his wall of potential and what you see now is what you will get in the future. they think oher has unlimited upside.

another reason the ravens want to move him is b/c he will be an UFA next year and the ravens dont want to have to pay him starting top tier LT money next year, then have to give out another big top tier LT contract to oher a year or two later. basically they dont want 2 big money contracts for the same LT position. of the two, they would prefer oher long term.

the ravens/ozzie seem to not like putting alot of money is one position. last year bart scott walked b/c they paid t-sizzle and ray lewis.

but i dont think he will fit in the ZBS for us. hes the tallest guy in the nfl, has work ethic/concertration issues.

i would wait to see whose available at our 2nd round pick before talking a great but ill-fiting LT just for the sake of getting a LT.

Seems fishy. There must be more details to the situation. BAL has been great about scouting personnel but, they're not immune from making mistakes.

they drafted him with a 5th round pick and hes been a 3 year starter. Now they might get a first or high second. This guy was not a mistake.

He is clearly better than anyone on our current roster. But I am hearing the same things OTM mentions about him. If we draft a LT at 4 and then sign Gaither to a low money long term contract with the understanding that he will be a RT, I wouldn't lambast the team.

Given his work ethic issues, just not sure he is a guy I would want on the team. For all the reasons mentioned by OTM and SS, I definitely don't want him as our long term LT.

Again, yes he is better than anyone we've got - but is he better than anyone we could potentially get in the draft? Does he fit in Shanny's system? Can we get him for a reasonable RT salary long term? I think the answers to all these questions are "no", so I wouldn't make the trade.

Baltimore is one of the best run teams in the NFL. If they're trying to get rid of this guy then something is up. He's better than anyone we have but we don't need anymore guys that don't want to practice/ poor work habits. Let's draft our own o-linemen and let the new staff mold him.
