tryfuhl 04-03-2010, 02:21 AM I agree; QB is a crapshoot, and if the Skins get Bradford and he busts? The Shanahan era will also bust here.
Still, the thought that we might have an 'elite' QB here with an 'elite' Head Coach and a progressive Offensive Co-ordinator is an enticing proposition. For me personally, I would much rather have Bradford/Saffold then Okung/McCoy.
1 draft QB ain't gonna kill you
don't have to start rookie year
if he's still not the best option he gets pushed back.. sucks as far as pay goes but yeah
tryfuhl 04-03-2010, 02:22 AM strong gut feeling cult, we'll see
CRedskinsRule 04-03-2010, 10:38 AM So, I was listening to NFL live today, and they were talking about what I'm sure has been discussed in this thread already about how the St. Louis dispatch reported that Bradford isn't going to sign a pre-draft contract, and it could be influenced by what Bradford's been hearing from other teams..The NFL live staff all said maybe a team that picks fourth like I don't know,... Washington?
My point is I think that the more little reports that come out like this, especially that Bradford isn't going to pull a stafford and sign a contract before the draft, tells me that the chances of the rams picking Bradford go down little by little the more reports that come out.
I say when all is said and done, Shanahan, BA, and Snyder will all say "This is Our guy, and We have to have him...we'll do anything to get him" I say the only way I believe Sam Bradford isn't a skin is when we officially sign our draft pick at number 4. I think even if the Rams take him at number 1 overall, we'll pull a trade for him. I believe that when all is said and done, Sam Bradford will most likely be a Redskin.
Actually, from what I've seen of both Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan, I don't think they buy into the "this is our guy we have to have him" philosophy. They seem to believe in getting who is available and building a team. I didn't look, but does anyone know whether BA or MS has ever done a trade up and sacrifice future picks?
April 22nd yet?

They didn't sacrifice much but the Broncos traded up to take Cutler.

Thanks Lotus, still they traded 1st's and a pick they had acquired from someone else. I find it hard to think they would trade up because, as Shanahan pointed out, he hasn't drafted this high in a long time, if ever. He can get an impact player at 4th overall, and I assume that's what he will do.
But if I am wrong, and he trades up, as long as it's not Herschel Walker style, I will be ok with that.

Jeff Risdon: After his strong pro day, it’s a given that Sam Bradford will be taken #1 overall. I’m not sold at all on Bradford and I wonder what your opinion of him going #1 overall might be?
Scout: We’re damn glad it isn’t us picking there. Look, Sam Bradford might wind up being a hell of a quarterback, but I wouldn’t touch him at #1. The last two times he got hit, his shoulder got hurt. He doesn’t do us any good if he can’t stay on the field. That’s why they need a QB in the first place, because Marc Bulger couldn’t take the hits anymore.

JR: Aside from Tim Tebow, the player I get asked more about than any other is Jimmy Clausen. I know you’ve scouted him extensively.
Scout: Yeah I have. I’ve seen every snap he took and a lot of them more than a few times. The thing about him is that kid just loves football and it’s his whole life. All these people talk about him being this or being that, and they sure as hell haven’t ever spent time with him. Because that kid is all about making himself the best NFL quarterback, and he’s got the physical ability to do it.

SBXVII 04-03-2010, 12:59 PM Again they were still talking about Clausen....
JR: But will he be successful?
Scout: I really think so. Look, he’s got some warts. That kid was a world class prick when he got there, but he figured it out and grew up. You could really see it over the last year. They ran an NFL offense and (Clausen) made reads and drops that none of the other guys have even thought about. He just anticipates routes so well. Now would I like to see him gun it a little harder sometimes, yeah, sure. But for my money this kid is the surest bet in this draft (at QB).

To be honest I like Bradford but this info really makes me feel comfortable if we pick up Clausen.

Agreed. I've argued elsewhere that the difference between Bradford and Clausen may not seem to merit a sell-the-farm trade for ShanAllen, should they be QB-smitten. And ShanAllen are smart enough to realize that just nabbing Okung without selling the farm is a good idea.
I may be proven wrong but I don't think ShanAllen are going to trade up unless the Rams make it inviting.

hmmm...
Dirtbag59 04-04-2010, 02:57 PM Does this scouting report look familair to anyone?:
Strengths: Is as good as it gets from an intangibles standpoint. Is an outstanding leader both in terms of vocally and by example. An extremely hard worker on the field, in the classroom and in the weight room. Is the most cerebral quarterback in this class. Has an outstanding feel for the game, makes few mistakes and understands the importance of ball security. Is one of the most competitive prospects in this class. A "gym-rat" type that just loves playing the game. Has sound mechanics. Delivery is quick and his release point is high. Is a tall QB that rarely has a ball batted down. Does an excellent job of finding throwing windows. Is at his best on short-to-intermediate routes. Has excellent timing and touch. Displays outstanding field vision. Understands how to make a pre-snap read and does a great job of picking up the blitz. Will make his progression reads, shows patience in the pocket and also does a good job of finding open receivers on the move after the original play has broken down. Has very good mobility. Shows quick feet and is fluid. Has a terrific pocket presence. Shows good balance and body control, especially for a taller athlete. Is a threat to run. Doesn't possess Mike Vick's type of explosiveness but has above average speed. Reminds us of a young Brett Favre -- shows some elusiveness and a lot of toughness as a runner. Good vision and a great feel for where the first down markers are. Is mechanically sound and accurate when throwing on the run.
Weaknesses: Arm strength is adequate but not good. Still needs to improve his overall bulk and strength. He can make most of the NFL throws but won't be able to fit the ball into tight spots that many starting NFL quarterbacks can. Very similar to Chad Pennington (Jets) in this area. If there's one facet of his accuracy that is inconsistent it is the deep ball. Ball occasionally will sail and he'll need to improve his timing in order to be successful throwing downfield in the NFL. He spent most of his time in the shotgun and in a spread offense. He will need to learn to read defenses while dropping from under center. He also will need to prove that he's not a "system QB", as he played in an offense that was wide-open and made a lot of the reads very easy for him.
I love Bradford as a prospect, and I'll be the first to say everyones different but I think we'd be much better off with Clausen. If anything this could easily be a 2004 draft situation where both QB's are good but technically the number 2 prospect is better.
