gortiz 11-06-2004, 10:09 AM Okay, I don't need to be in the stands to see that Brunell is really struggling, but I have got some first hand accounts from a couple of people at the games saying that the WR's are not getting open consistently.
I know in the NFL they say WR's are not really open on even poor coverage and the QB has to get it there, but can any fans who have been to the games and see the big picture give some insight on the play of WR's....also, who would you you grade our O-line so far, I would say "C"
I'm not a big Brunell guy, but these are things I think people don't consider when regarding QB play...we just like to look at the raw numbers.

Gmanc711 11-06-2004, 10:43 AM Theres a very good chance of that, but I think alot of people's problems are when you watch him miss recivers that are clearly open. He has made some poor desicions, where maybe he shouldnt have throw it at all last week. However, I was one getting pissed cause he threw it away so damn much, so i'll give him a pass on that. Still, its the 3rd down overthrows and lack of arm that I really dont like about him.
Daseal 11-06-2004, 11:05 AM In the NFL two steps on your guy is wide open! You all bash Spurrier, but he got our guys open and sent Coles to the Pro Bowl. Is it the receiver, or is it the system?

how does Gibbs take those two steps away? its more likely LC's toe. more likely than that is Brunell playing too cautious..
one things for sure, the receivers should have it easier this year cuz of #26 on the field.

In Coles' case, I think it's the receiver. Don't you think the toe injury has slowed him a little. And by a little, I mean enough so that he can't get that two step separation.
The QB passing the ball to him isn't getting it done either. It seems to me that when he does complete a pass it is in bad spot so the receiver can't get any hards after the catch.
I really don't think it's the system that's the problem. Art Monk, Ricky Sanders, and Gary Clark to name a few didn't have a problem with the system.
Daseal 11-06-2004, 01:20 PM Correct me if I'm wrong, but Coles had that same injury the second half of last year. We ran coles over the middle a lot last year and DIDNT float the ball two feet over his head so he gets killed.
This is a different NFL than it was then, believe it or not. The speed is even greater. I'm not saying Gibbs system can't work, just saying it's not working now.
NY_Skinsfan 11-06-2004, 06:48 PM Daseal, I agree that Gibbs system isn't working now...but it's not working because of poor execution, not because the system doesn't work.

Gibbs doesn't tell Brunell to overthrow the ball.
Daseal 11-07-2004, 01:27 AM I'm not saying it's all Gibbs. I think partially it is, but the over-throws kill. I'm still not convinced that this offense could work. Last year I saw glimmers of an amazing offense. I have yet to see that from this years offense.
A lot of the problems DO come from execution. But seriously, you can not expect all your plays to be run perfectly. Holes will close, blitz's will not get picked up. I also think we're on the verge of getting something going. I'm not going to blindly follow Gibbs like a lot of other members of this site. What he did in the past was great, and I respect him for it. But it's a new time, and a new year. I question some of his moves. He says a new QB doesnt mean a spark. It doesn't guarantee that. Let's see... Tom Brady comes in for Bledsoe.. Super Bowl. Rothelisburger for Maddox (superbowl?), B. Johnson got benched and that turned Tampa around. There are a million instances where it works. A million and one where it doesn't. At this point, isn't it worth a try?
love them hogs 11-07-2004, 02:26 AM I believe that it is time to bench Brunnel based on the fact that teams dont fear his arm in the slightest. It seems pretty simple to me, if teams dont fear the long ball then they will play up.If they play up they are going to stop the run.If they stop the run the system wont work.At least people know Ramsey can throw the ball and will respect it.
Also I think Ramsey would create a spark for the offense. The recievers will work harder to get open if they think the ball is going to come to them and not over there head.Ramsey didnt have the benifit of a top five running back and a system that emphasises(sp) protection.
I know that a lot of people will point to the one half of football that Ramsey has played and say that he stinks for throwing the three int's but we were behind in the game and he knew that he was not the number one guy.I believe that given the chance to lead this team as the starting QB and things will turn around.imo
