I like how many people is trying to make excuses and justify a trade that the only real reason is it helped the redskins in a redskins forumWould it have made a difference if diehard had traded up to get Okung and then he winds up with a top flight corner at # 37, filling SF's two biggest needs with quality starters?

we also don't know what a safety's contract would be at that pick. He won't be making Linebacker money that is for shore.

so you recognize that safeties generally get paid less than pretty much every other position.... because its a far less valuable position to a team. that said, regardless of a players position, a player drafted in the first round generallys makes close to than the player drafted at the same position the year before.

i don't mean to be overly hard on you - its just the only trade we've had so far and it involves the redskins and doesnt make much sense from the perspective of the 49ers. kinda broke the realism of what we were going for, atleast for me. Now, if Al Davis were owner of the 49ers, it would be another matter entirely. i'd be applauding your skills at impersonating the madman.

On that note, GTripp made far too sensible of a pick to accurately portray what the Raiders would do. If I had been Oakland, I would have drafted Tebow with that pick, LOL.

no one wants a safety that bad. Ever. especially when they have more pressing needs. The 49ers need STARTERS at right tackle and cornerback. While safety is definitely a need for them, they have two promising young safeties on the roster already. Still, they don't have anyone to play or RT or start opposite Clements, who has himself lost a step or two. At t his point, the 49ers wouldnt trade up for anyone, especially not Berry.

Just 3 years ago, we drafted a safety at #6 overall and we had other more pressing needs. 3 years before that, we drafted a safety at #5 overall who became a Pro Bowler.

A HC who was one of the greatest defensive players in league history drafting one at #4 is not that far-fetched. Maybe they wouldn't trade up, but if they think he's the next Ronnie Lott and fear he'll be gone...crazier draft trades have happened.

As others said, a safety at #4 will be cheaper than a QB or RB, or even LB.

yeah buster but in both cases you didn't trade 2 first round picks to get those Safetys.... he's not saying Berry isn't worth taking at #4 he's saying he isn't worth trading 2 high 1st round picks 2 get him like I've said... an also agree with him that it just took realism of what you guys were trying to do with this mock draft and acting on the best interest of every franchsie.

I see it the other way, no surprise, that people who are ready to bash the Skins, fail to acknowledge that that trade could happen given the teams involved, and that surprise trades happen in alot of drafts. Did anyone expect Cleveland to be able to trade back MULTIPLE TIMES last year? If you look at the trade as it occured it really took the Skins out of the hunt for a qb, which many would say was not in the Skins interest, and yet it gave them two tackles, which was in the Skins interest. Trades happen when both sides think they gain, and in this case a S like Berry could very well attract a trade in the 1st round.

1. Just 3 years ago, we drafted a safety at #6 overall and we had other more pressing needs. 2.3 years before that, we drafted a safety at #5 overall who became a Pro Bowler.

1. how's that worked out for us?
2. did we trade multiple first round picks when we had multiple more pressing needs to move up to select a lesser need (safety) in either case? No. We simply took the best player on the board when they fell to us.

can we call a truce perhaps?

Dallas has been involved in some surprising draft day trades:

"Hey, we traded our first and third away for a bust WR already, so lets trade our second away so we have ZERO picks on the first day of the draft":

The previously-mentioned Browns trading down and down again with help from Dallas:

Trade 2 picks to move up from 155 to 143 to select who? Definitely worth the one interception in 32 games.

can we call a truce perhaps?

Next year, either:

A. No trades at all.

or

B. No Dallas fans allowed in.
