wilsowilso 03-13-2010, 02:09 PM Chester Peterson We should have signed that guy! 12thMan 03-13-2010, 02:15 PM Look, as far as this signing alone, I understand it to a degree, I just dont like it. I hope he does reach all the incentives, that would be a first in a signing like this for our squad. I just think his production could be equaled (spelling) with a younger back taken in the mid - late rounds of the draft. Its not a reach to think that with Shanahan. And for the people that keep quoting my posts acting like I am an idiot because I dont put names of possible alternatives to LJ in them, think about what you are saying, and then think about what I said. The RB's before shanahan molded them didn't have any real degrees of success, or were not known previous to entrance into his system, or RB factory, so to say. Just knowing his tendencies and track record with young RB's, this signing just didnt make sense. I hate the fact that we only have five picks. I think if we had the 7 or maybe 8 picks, this move doesnt even get made. But, heres to hoping. I can see the upside at the end of the tunnel now, one might say. I dont post without doing some research or reading posts made earlier in the thread, contrary to your beliefs, Smoot. It sees like the people ridiculing my posts concerning this issue aren't really taking into full account what I was saying, but hey, thats ok. Its all in good fun, and all in hopes of a brighter tomorrow for the squad we all love. Passion is good. I love the degree of talk on these forums. They have more free minded intellectual members than all the other Redskins boards combined!! I might even think about splurging and giving $20 of my E-5 pay to the movement!!!! (and thats saying alot, knowing how much E-5's in the army get paid!) If I told you that of these three running backs: Ladell Betts, Rock Cartwright, and Larry Johnson. One has played 123 games in his career, the other 103 games, and the third guy 82 games, you'd probably put LJ at the top of that list. Granted, comparing apples to apples, LJ probably has the most wear and tear on his body. Even that is arguable when you look at Betts injury history. I don't think anyone's trying to shoot you down, bro. This move doesn't preclude the Redskins from drafting a really good back in the latter rounds. CJ Spiller could still be on a radar, as a matter fact, so I wouldn't interpret this move as the Redskins not willing to address their need for a future starter or current depth at running back. 12thMan 03-13-2010, 02:17 PM We should have signed that guy! Yeah, he's Chester Taylor and Adrian Peterson combined. 53Fan 03-13-2010, 02:17 PM We should have signed that guy! :laughing- Yeah...and Chester Taylor too! Two things the Army definitely teaches....Discipline & Patience, bottle the latter and tell us what you really think come seasons end. Oh BTW I have no idea what an E-5's pay is now, but I was discharged as a Spec. E-4 in 1963 with a base salry of $124.00 a month, now just thinking of donating $20.00 of that to a Redskin fan forum would have truly been splurging. celts32 03-13-2010, 02:32 PM Look, as far as this signing alone, I understand it to a degree, I just dont like it. No one thinks your an idiot dude...and I would venture to guess that 99% of the people on this board are hoping that Shanny finds a young RB good enough to put Portis and LJ on the bench. irish 03-13-2010, 02:40 PM No one thinks your an idiot dude...and I would venture to guess that 99% of the people on this board are hoping that Shanny finds a young RB good enough to put Portis and LJ on the bench. (and thats saying alot, knowing how much E-5's in the army get paid!) Let's see, Larry Johnson is a power back with good ball-catching ability....sounds like Peyton Hillis...Shanahan loved Hillis...soooooooooooo And seriously, the O-line is crappier here, so he needs better backs. The backs were "great" because the o-line was great. Also, 1421 carries is very moderate milage, only slightly more than what Portis had circa the end of 2006. The Goat 03-13-2010, 04:16 PM LOL...well played. You got me there. At least I know you read one post here As for LJ, it's been mentioned already I believe but we should probably hope he reaches $12 million +, because that would mean he performed well, was on his best behavior, and the team was successful. If those things don't happen he's not even getting a third of that money. Of the 30 year old backs out on the market, he has by far the least wear and tear of them all, even less than CP I believe (though he's older). On the field, I like this move better than Parker because a) if Parker doesn't have his speed then what does he offer really, at least LJ you get a 230 lb. power back and b) now we can focus on getting a young speedster in the draft (cough...CJ Spiller...cough, though apparently Joe McKnight is high on our radar) Off the field, I don't mean to make light of his domestic abuse incidents and allegations but I think there's a misconception that he went around punching women. As I understand, one time he was charged for waving a gun during an argument with his girlfriend, another time he was accused of throwing a drink in a girl's face at a club. One time I heard he allegedly pushed some woman down those claims were apparently found to be unsubstantiated, if I recall correctly. Again, not trying to make light of it or justify it. Just saying it doesn't seem like he was going Chuck Norris on a bunch of women. The clarification on his past is appreciated. Honestly I never followed LJ much cuz, well cuz of who he played for...I mean c'mon the Chiefs are high in the runnin for most boring franchise. Like others I've just thought he's more of a headcase than anything else. I don't think there's any disputing he's the best FA RB, possibly by a wide margin. Johnson is tough as nails and hasn't had near the line to run behind most marque backs get. He's a bit like CP in that regard but Johnson's line was even worse. I could see him have at least two huge seasons. I think the big question now is whether Shanny tries to make CP into a slasher again. Not sure Portis has the speed/agility to get there again, which makes me wonder if CP is headed out the door if we get a solid prospect. Best case scenario we have two vet RBs rededicating themselves to career and team along w/ a great young prospect who can break some big ones. Pocket$ $traight 03-13-2010, 04:59 PM I think you'll have to wait until the draft to get that higher caliber back, the options are/were pretty limited in free agency According to some people there are young budding future All-pro runningbacks falling off trees who are just waiting to be signed... I would be happy with us using one pick in the backfield. A lot of people are calling for Blount but I am not convinced that he makes it to our 4th pick. We aren't the only people who know about his 2008 stats (which were off the charts). Does anyone think that Dexter McCluster is worth our second round pick? He is sick... He is just as dangerous catching the ball too. |
