We got him for the right base price that's for sure. Portis will play one more year of his contract and by next year we'll have a young buck ready to take over from LJ by next season's end. Great move

Great move Beneil (diehard since 87) 03-13-2010, 09:50 AM People exaggerate the whole locker room thing. I don't think his locker room presence is going to be a distraction at all. He's not gonna be 'the man' here. With CP, Santana, and Cooley around, hes not the only probowl level guy on the squad. As for how i feel about him being here? I'm totally okay with it. I'm one of the guys that was bangin my head agaisnt the wall when Spurrier let go of Steven Davis. We NEED a tough guy that can pound away at weaker d-lines and isn't as fumble prone as Sellers. I wouldn't want him to get 300 carries, but allong with CP, we can seriously wear the hell out of a defense with our running game! Shannahan is seriously working on our o-line. I'm feeling a lot better about our team now. I mean, it's early to be optimistic, i know, but both our o-line and d-line are being adressed EARLY. Old baggage is GONE. new guys are signing PERFORMANCE based contracts that encourage improved play. All and all, i am more than happy with the Shanahans' and company's approach! HTTR! Longtimefan 03-13-2010, 10:18 AM We have a coach and GM that have a plan for the future of the organization. We as fan need to sit back and let them make the decisions to get our roster ready for 2010 season. I trust that they know more about football than 99% of us on here. LJ signing is a low risk high reward signing due to his incentive type contract. If T. Owens can become a model football player than why not LJ. I think he just really wanted out of KC so he became a distraction. He from the DC area and he has alot to prove this year. I say lets wait and see how this plays out before we make a determination. We just dont have enough picks to draft a RB this year so we needed a veteran to back up Portis if he gets a season ending injury. LJ is the big brusing back we need to wear down defenses in the NFC East. I hope LJ gets off this season. 2 good backs are a must now. Four words in your post says it all..."Let's wait and see" There's power in positive thinking, it relegates pessimism to second guessing. beemnsevenspop 03-13-2010, 10:19 AM I like the pick up of Larry Johnson. I'm sure Clinton will be back down to 205 again and Larry will be the speedy 230 pound back we haven't had in a while. Oh yeah. And those faces appearing on Mount Rushmore are naturally-occurring phenomena.... Sad to say, this team has historically been enamored of freaking has-beens, and apparently, is willing to continue the tradition. skinsnut 03-13-2010, 10:33 AM Another reason this signing makes sense is this. Shanny knows that he cannot improve the Oline ALL IN ONE YEAR....not realistic. The proof is in the pudding....he went out and signed an older back with ethics issues. When has Shanny done that before?...I can't remember. This is the guy that everyone was expecting to just use a different rookie 5th round draft choice every year to be the leading rusher...well...it looks like he has his head on straight and realizes our line sucks right now and he's going to need some Senior RBs to drag tacklers down the field for another year or two until the Oline gets corrected. Not a huge fan of this pickup due to ethics, but from a talent level AND value perspective AND transition strategy perspective....it all makes sense to me now artmonkforhallofamein07 03-13-2010, 10:36 AM Well I think the thing that worries me is the guy is coming home to his old high school buddies. The old gang maybe a problem with him coming here. But this is all conjucture on my part as I do not know LJ, I do not know the area he is from, and I do not know who his old friends are. Now if he used to be pretty docile guy around the area and his family kept him in check as a kid who knows maybe he will be better off back at home. And the fact that being a Redskin maybe enough motivation to push him to be a better player and man. Only time will tell. Gmanc711 03-13-2010, 10:38 AM I believe that people deserve second chances. If he doesn't work out cut him. Well he's been arrested four times for the same type of thing... so I think he's had it. Longtimefan 03-13-2010, 10:46 AM Oh yeah. And those faces appearing on Mount Rushmore are naturally-occurring phenomena.... Sad to say, this team has historically been enamored of freaking has-beens, and apparently, is willing to continue the tradition. I guess it's safe to say you're not satisfied with the way Allen & Sahnahan are conducting business. tdSKINS1 03-13-2010, 10:59 AM I guess it's safe to say you're not satisfied with the way Allen & Sahnahan are conducting business. It appears that way haha. MTK 03-13-2010, 11:09 AM Yeah I hear you. I mean we of course don't know who else is doing what off the field that we just don't hear about. So for all we know we're already cheering for these type of people. Anyhow, as we've talked about before Shanahan is well known for making at least a couple of "I can't believe he just did that moves" seemingly every year. Whether it's Maurice Clarett...or Larry Johnson He's not afraid to roll the dice that's for sure. |
