I'm in the minority, but I like the signing. I think he tallies more yards than CP next season. I think them splitting the work load is important. Just like our jobs, it's important to find a company you fit in with and go from there. Hopefully LJ fits in here. I need to look at his career carries, but I think it's significantly less than CP.
I listed their respective career numbers on pg. 4. The columns are slightly off, but Portis and LT are waaaay ahead of LJ in every category. Games, number of carries, yards, TDs, you name it.
This was a good signing if you ask me.

I hope we draft a back. Larry probably still has some juice in the tank, but we should have maybe waited to see if a younger FA RB would have been available.
If that happens, what would prevent us from signing them too?

I doubt Portis is going anywhere. Why sign two FA running backs if you are going to draft someone? I mean Larry is a monster when he is on top of his game, but he is a short termer for sure. I only wonder if he is only going to be used for short yardage situations or is he actually going to split carries with Clinton. I guess it all comes down to what their plans are for Portis. I was hoping they would draft a kid and groom him to eventually take over for Portis. But you are right they could sign another FA if need be. Was Portis the only RB spared from the cuts?

That's a lot of ink on that backfield!!
I didn't know LJ's father played for the Redskins back in 1974. I remember after he signed with Cincy last year (after being cut by KC) he was interviewed by Dan Patrick on his show and I was very impressed with him, he was very articulate and seemed very bright. Hard to believe after all the shit he pulled in KC. Maybe he has matured and will surprise us fans.

Both of these backs in a split role could be a very good duo imo, lets see how it plays out.

It could very well happen. As Ruhskins said, we seem to be signing these guys to realistic, performance based contracts. He's only making big money if he performs well. I think he's worth signing if only to get Portis's attention. Anything that makes Portis a little uncomfortable is good in my book. Maybe he'll get his ass in gear which I think SmootSmack was alluding to in one of his posts.

If this was 3 -4 years ago the I'd be all for it. But he's older and a locker room nightmare. Our new RB coach is going to be miserable coaching CP and Larry Johnson. Could you imagine coming to work everyday and having to deal with these two malcontents??? lol.

Draft one...look around and ye shall also find one somewhere. Johnson just reminds me of Shawn Alexander.
Get real Son. Johnson does not have the miles that Shaun Alexander had on him. LJ has alot to prove since his career the last few years have not gone well.

Um no. He got cut because when the shit got bad in KC and the losses piled up he ripped his coach on his twitter page. I actually found it funny that Haley has never played football at any level ever. But keep that crap to yourself. Disrespecting your coach on your twitter page is anything but mature.

PEOPLE I'm not 100% behind this BUT we only have 5 picks in this draft unless we pick up more & we have so many holes to fill. Maybe this won't be the year to draft a RB WE ONLY HAVE 5 PICKS you do the math.
Agree with you we dont have enough picks this year to waste it on a lower round RB. I think with Portis, LJ and Alridge we can get the job done. Who knows maybe we sign a undrafted rookie free agent who could be a gem. We have a more pressing need to adress the O-Line in the draft. The only RB worth taking in the 1st round is CJ Spiller and we cannot afford to pick him with our 1st rd pick.
