I personally think we have the players on hand to play the 3-4. Carter can play end and OLB as a rusher is certain situations. But honestly he kind of reminds me athletically as a Jason taylor, little bigger, but just as quick and strong. I think Blades can play the inside, i mean he was named the best LB in college just a few years ago, so the guy can play. I wish we would just start letting our young talent take the field. Chris Wilson is another guy, that I think can play OLB in a 3-4 system. He is quick, can cover and is a high motor guy.
If there is one thing about this organization that really kills me is the development of younger guys. They have them sitting on the sideline behind older guys when they should be playing. Especially Kelly and Tomas. Devin came on at the end of year, but Malcom never saw the damn field. Its a shame. Now with Randel smell gone, Malcom should become what eveyone thinks he should. Shannys kid thinks he has all the tools to be an Andre Johnson type reciever, which if true is scary if Tomas gets better mixing with cooley and Davis. The potential of this offense now with the addition of Larry Johnson and Portis splitting time, upgrades in the Oline really has me excited.
Actually I don't think Carter, and he's admitted as much himself, can play DE in a 3-4 and definitely not OLB. He just too clumsy to be honest. He's a pure 4-3 defensive end.
That said, as I've stated elsewhere, I'm very leery of bringing Adam Carriker here because he's shown nothing (2 sacks in three years) and he's Courtney Brown waiting to happen, in my humble opinion. But if there's a year to gamble, this is the year to do it.
Bottom line, if we let Andre Carter go I hope we don't package him and draft picks to another team.
