I dont know about that. He could be a situational pass rusher, and contribute more to this team than most 5th rounders. Really, how many 5th rounders come to a team, and even over a few seasons, have near the impact of an Andre Carter. Very very few would be the answer to that question.

Actually, I wouldnt give him up for anything less than a 4th, all while trying to get a third. Tis unfortunate this draft is deep along the DL, and skimpy at QB. Doesnt it seem like lady luck is always smiling on us? hehehe

I'll go on the record right now saying if signed, Carriker doesn't make the team.
Didn't a lot of people say this very thing about Big Mike Williams?

It's hard for me to imagine a scenario where Carter isn't here next year in some capacity, much easier to imagine a scenario where he just isn't as productive as last year.
We can never have enough good players, Carter is a good player we should make every attempt to keep. Hard to believe there's not a place on the team for a player of his caliber.
Carriker is an interesting idea to me. He's only 25 and still has a lot of potential. Haslett knows him well too.

Keep Carter...little trade value for a solid starting DE...before him we were desperate for a DE for what...like 10 yrs....this is one of Vinny's better pickups...don't mess with a good thing....(why the hell are we going to a 3-4 anyways? we dont have the right personnel...lets change the offensive...they are the ones that suck)

Your saying keep him but at the same time saying he does not fit the new defense? I don't want him lining up at OLB next year and it's not worth a roster spot to have guy that we can only bring in a couple times a game to rush the QB. We are better off with a late round pick for the guy.
This draft is deep at a lot of positions including RB...Shanny could land a starting RB with a 5th round pick. If we keep Carter at all then it's only for another year probably so why not get a potential building block for him now?

Well, there are other factors. Such as do we have potentially a younger version in Jarmon (or someone else)? Does Carter want to be here? Can we get good value and improve upon our 4-12 record by using him as leverage while he still has value instead of waiting too long?

Not because he doesn't have potential, because he does. He's not durable, that's all. It's not his shoulders that bug me so much, he's been playing on a bum ankle since his Nebraska days and I'm not convinced that it's much better, if at all, at this stage in his career.

if haslett beleives that carriker could start here and play well, then i'd trade carter to the rams (assuming they wanted him and he was willing to go there) straight up. I'd even throw in a 7th round pick if I had to, but thats about as far as i'd go. Carter is on the wrong side of 30 and coming off the best year in his career. he doesn't fit in our new defense and its an uncapped year. if there's ever going to be a time to move him, its now.
