Trample the Elderly 03-09-2010, 12:11 PM Not only that, the Broncos' safeties in 2008 were, by far, one of the worst tandems in the league. Shanahan sure loved his meat-heads. Maybe he himself is one.
Perhaps . . . . It's meat-ball.
Trample the Elderly 03-09-2010, 12:12 PM Rumor has it he was up in Chicago last weekend.
takethecake 03-09-2010, 12:49 PM Sometimes we're too quick to write off players until they have had ample opportunity to reach their maximum potential. Keenan McKardell will do a much better job with our young receivers than did Stan Hixon.
I agree with you there. I never said I didn't have faith in the guys we have now, but it never hurts to bring in another youthful prospect to compete, and I don't think that drafting another WR in the later rounds will keep us from addressing our primary needs.
I don't agree with you. Here's why:
1) Doughty, Landry, Horton are basically the same player, SS. Out of the three, I'd keep Doughty and Horton because their both better than, "got the brakes beat out of my his ass on MNF" Landry. Doughty and Horton are cheaper and both play ST. Trade Landry's ass for a ham sandich. This draft is deep with FS and OT. Horton and Doughty can't cover worth a damn, but then again, neither can Landry.
2) Kareem Moore is a meat-ball in helmet. Shanny & Allen don't like paying for meat-balls. I doubt his flunky ass makes it past camp.
3) Between bricks for hands and Zone coverage Hall the FS spot is hard enough. We should use a good pick on a FS and a NT.
4) The rest of the draft should go on the line and with a new RB.
The secondary are not a bunch of crown jewels. It's deeper than the O-line though. Without a good FS, passing teams will eat the Skins's lunch for em. A FS is a lot more important than a return guy. Shanny is good at getting them. I've never been a Shanny guy, but he knows his runners. Believe that!
That's all I'm saying.
For a while, I agreed with getting a pick or two for landry, for the same reasons you propose. But it's worth noting that nobody was crying for landry's head last year, he was one of our (relatively) stable pieces going into this year. I really think that landry's problems are coaching related, and that he has all the physical tools he needs to be a great free safety. Perhaps he would be better at strong safety, but I think that a lot of people are just saying that now because everybody else is, and we've got two solid strong safeties already. Landry's problems, as far as I can tell, are missing assignments and discipline. Those sound like coachable problems to me. I'm willing to give landry another chance rather than bringing in some unproven rookie, because I think with a better DC (i really never liked greg blache, even if I'm not crazy about haslett) and secondary coach, landry can prove he belongs and was worth his 6th overall selection.
And for the record, I like kareem moore. Maybe only as a backup, but I think he's got some skill and is definitely worth hanging on to.

We only have 5 picks as of now and 3 receivers and a TE with 3 years or less, I just can't see using one for a WR, no matter what we do with the rest. If we want to bring in someone like Bryant, that's fine, but our picks ought to focus on other areas.

If we got decent value for Landry I would be fine for trading him. I doubt we will, so he is our project this year, and I hope that a more aggressive D will benefit him.

Yeah I like meatballs too, especially on my subs.
Pocket$ $traight 03-09-2010, 01:42 PM I'm actually surprised that anyone would be surprised about ARE getting the axe. Given his slip in production last year at WR and in the return game, coupled with his $35M contract, he clearly had to go.
If this wasn't the easiest cut for them to make, I don't know what would have been.
We will forget that Randall-Fail was ever here a year from now.
freddyg12 03-09-2010, 02:57 PM Here's an answer to the question I posed in this thread:
Redskins Insider - WR Antonio Bryant schedules visit with Redskins (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/free-agency/wr-antonio-bryant-schedules-vi.html)
I really don't like this guy, hopefully he's asking for ridiculous money & we send him back to cincy.
Bruce Allen knows him well from Tampa, I wouldn't be surprised if he signs here. As long as the $$ is right I like the move.
freddyg12 03-09-2010, 03:34 PM I always hate signing former cowpokes, plus he's had attitude issues in the past. I'm all for signing a vet wr or even using a pick on one that can return punts as well, but I worry that his influence on the young uns would not be good.
SirClintonPortis 03-09-2010, 03:45 PM Do we need to be reminded of how former pukes always tend to not work out for the Redskins? Deion is an obvious one, but Suisham is another, and there's more from the past...
