This is exactly what Allen did in Tampa...cut overpaid vets, brought in 19 new younger and cheaper, but good players...went to the Super Bowl.
I have faith in him, he's won in this league before.
I'm thrilled that Collins was cut. ARE also, but I didn't think it would actually happen.
I am not really surprised at any of them. We should have traded Betts in 2007 when his value was peaking. Randy Thomas should really follow in Samuels' footsteps and retire while his health is intact. Smoot is just finished.
All of the players have been great Redskins and I'm proud of what they've done in the past, but these moves are necessary. We have stuck with the same core for many years and haven't improved. Blowing it up after a 4-12 season is our best bet to return to success.
Exactly. IMO a few others need to follow.

Man, you know the OL market is thin when Pashos and Clifton are the "big" targets. Still better than what we've got, but definitely stop gap types.

If he's going to be dropping more weight to play OLB I can't see him inside, he played at 275 last year so he's already too light.
You know I'm starting a thread the first time I see Zoe line up inside, right:)

Portis is our best option at this point. I don't love his mouth but if he is motivated he can still be a force.
CP would've been my first cut. He's going to complain and cry like he always does so I'm not sure why they're keeping him around. He's just not worth it anymore. I'd go out and sign Thomas Jones (who is a real professional) and draft a scat back in the later rounds. There is simply no reason to keep CP.

If he's lining up inside at 250 or 260, yeah that's thread worthy

I am happy that at least we don't have the F.O. saying "We have a playoff roster". Our o-line was the obvious glaring weakness and they are focusing on the line. What's not to like? It just sucks that there isn't a premier o-lineman out there but we are doing the best we can with the hand we are given.

I was thinking that the signing of Clifton gives us a lot more flexibility in that if Bradford does fall to us in the first and we end up with a project tackle in the draft, like Ducasse, then we can possibly give them experience at RT before we try our hand at LT. Then if that doesn't seem to be working out we can draft a LT with our first rounder next year.
:FIREdevil Oh and besides guys the tackle class next year looks much better, this years class is the weakest tackle class like you know like ever. Better yet lets use a mid round pick to find a franchise LT. I'm pretty sure we'll be able to manage that. We can draft him right after our 5th round franchise QB :FIREdevil

I also wonder that Clifton is insurance in case we lose out on both Bradford and Okung. I also wonder if you could move Clifton or Pashos to RT if we land Okung?

Could be. There's a very good chance we could miss out on BOTH of them and end up drafting a top defensive player we just can't pass up...or trading down.
I was also wondering if Clifton or Okung could move to RT? Other than Dockery, we need to upgrade the whole line.

Clifton would make a nice RT. I think thought that the main reason we like him now is aside from his reputation he's spent the last few years in a zone blocking scheme. Unfortunately my favorite project Daryn Colledge got a second round tender from Green Bay. Oh well.
