Please! Vet min is so 2009. Now it's all about the trade down. You can't be a smart arm chair GM unless you constantly suggest that we trade down no matter what.

Yup, trade down in the draft and trade every RFA we have for picks too. We're going to have at least 20 picks.

Since I don't know all the nuances of the CBA I'm wondering what adverse affect any wholesale spending now will have going forward if/when a salry cap returns. Will contracts have to be renegotiated, players released or any combination of events that may be applicable to the situation in order to satisfy cap demands.

By this being unchartered territory, it has to be extremely challenging for any GM. There's so many questions about the whole situation that cannot be answered today mainly because of the uncertainty associated with the assembly of a new CBA.

It really depends upon what rules are put in place during the negotiation of a new CBA. They can change the rules around to whatever they want.

But logically speaking, any money paid out during an uncapped year would not count towards any future caps. Including bonuses. But who knows, they could come up with something illogical.

That's good to know because without that assurance it would be extremely difficult for GM's to prepare. I'm anxious to see how this all plays out.

Here's another thing I heard thorugh the grapevine. Supposedly cutting all our high price vets will not clean our books as much as we thought.

From what I understand only the 2010 part of the deadcap fee will be applied to 2010 (the uncapped year). But the deadcap hits for 2011 and beyond will stay on the books until a new CBA is in place.

So if we cut Moss this year, his 2010 deadcap fee of $3.7M would go against the 2010 cap (and thus be "free"). But the rest of the deadcap charges from 2011 on (total $5.5M) would stay on the books. So if a new CBA is in place by 2011, we would eat a $5.5M deadcap charge.

Schneed or anyone else hear this?
